Shake Shack has at least eight restaurants in Shanghai as of October 2026. Six appear on shakeshack.com: iapm, Grand Gateway 66, IFC, Qiantan Taikoo Li, Yu Garden and Pudong Airport Terminal 2. Two more show up only on other platforms: Xintiandi, the first Shake Shack in mainland China, opened on January 24, 2019, and Century Link, opened in January 2026. Budget about ¥70–85 per person, based on 2024 press figures; Dianping puts Xintiandi at ¥88 today. Diners love the ShackBurger, the cheese fries and the thick shakes. They grumble about prices and queues. I checked every address, listing and rating below on October 24 and 25, 2026, and each figure carries its source and date.
Shake Shack Shanghai at a glance
Shake Shack is a New York burger chain with 703 restaurants worldwide as of July 1, 2026, and Shanghai was its first city in mainland China. Its Chinese restaurants are run under license by Maxim’s Caterers of Hong Kong, through the Shanghai company Xiakebao (Shanghai) Food Service Co., Ltd. The brand announced its arrival in Shanghai in August 2017. Shake Shack and Maxim’s planned 25 Shacks in Shanghai and East China by 2028, part of a target of 55 restaurants in mainland China by 2030 (Shake Shack 10-K for fiscal 2020). For the chain’s full history and figures, see our Shake Shack brand profile.
Shake Shack Xintiandi: the first Shake Shack in mainland China
Shake Shack Xintiandi opened on January 24, 2019 at 11 a.m. at No. 10 Xintiandi North Block, Lane 181 Taicang Road, Huangpu District (太仓路181弄新天地北里10号). It was the first Shake Shack in mainland China, according to Nomfluence and Jiemian. In 2019 the address was published as Unit 02-03, Building 11-13, Xintiandi, 181 Taicang Lu, near Madang Lu. Same building, different way of writing it.
The queues made the news. People waited up to seven hours, daily sales passed ¥300,000 and orders were capped at three burgers per person (CBNData, Reuters). The opening menu had Shanghai-only items made with local partners: desserts with Al’s Baking Co., a dedicated beer from Brooklyn Brewery and Shanghai’s own Boxing Cat beer on tap (Time Out Shanghai).
Check before you go. Trip.com and Dianping both list Xintiandi, but I could not find its page on shakeshack.com, which blocks automated access. The two platforms don’t even agree on the hours: 11:00–23:00 on Dianping, 07:00–24:00 on Trip.com. That is a lot of uncertainty for the most historic Shack in China, so confirm on Dianping, Amap or the Shake Shack WeChat mini-program before you cross the city for it. Trip.com rates it 4.3/5 on about 90 reviews, and Dianping shows an average spend of ¥88 per person (both read on October 24, 2026).
Shake Shack Shanghai addresses: all locations
These are the Shake Shack restaurants in Shanghai I could match to a source in October 2026. “Officially listed” means the restaurant has its own page on shakeshack.com.

All Shake Shack Shanghai locations as of October 2026: Xintiandi and Yu Garden in Huangpu, iapm and Grand Gateway 66 in Xuhui, and IFC, Qiantan Taikoo Li, Century Link and Pudong Airport T2 in Pudong. The table gives each address with its Chinese name and whether shakeshack.com lists it. (Table: Burger Breton, CC BY 4.0, data from shakeshack.com, Trip.com, Dianping, Apple Maps and PR Newswire Asia, checked October 24–25, 2026)
Livat (L1, 788 Jinzhong Road, Changning) opened on September 26, 2024 as Shake Shack’s 117th restaurant in Asia and 560th worldwide. It no longer appears on the official locator in 2026, so I left it out of the table. The same goes for Hongqiao Airport, Kerry Centre Jing’an and Qibao Vanke: older sources mention them, and nothing current confirms them.

Across the Huangpu River are IFC in Lujiazui, Century Link on Century Avenue and Qiantan Taikoo Li. Pudong Airport T2 is at the far east, airside in international departures (iframe 800×450). Shake Shack iapm and Grand Gateway 66
Shake Shack iapm and Shake Shack Grand Gateway 66 are the two Xuhui Shacks, both inside big shopping malls. Trip.com lists iapm at +86 21 6418 6577, open 07:00–22:00, rated 4.5/5 on 4 reviews. It lists Grand Gateway 66 at +86 21 3416 0136, open 07:00–22:00, rated 4.1/5 on 7 reviews. Both phone numbers and both sets of hours come from Trip.com alone, so treat them as a starting point. Trip.com also lists mobile payment, card payment, accessibility, high chairs and mall parking at both.
Shake Shack Yu Garden and its ice cream kiosk
Shake Shack Yu Garden opened on September 22, 2024 with the world’s first Shake Shack scoop ice cream kiosk. At opening, an ice cream bar cost ¥19.9, a single scoop ¥18 and a classic double scoop ¥31 (PR Newswire Asia, September 2024). If I had one Shack to pick in Puxi for a first-timer, this is it: no other Shake Shack in the world had the kiosk when it opened, and you are steps from the Yuyuan Garden crowds anyway.
Shake Shack IFC, Qiantan and Century Link in Pudong
Pudong has three city Shacks. IFC, under the Lujiazui towers, was the third Shake Shack in Shanghai and the first in Pudong. Qiantan Taikoo Li sits about five minutes from the Oriental Sports Center, handy before a concert or a game (SmartShanghai). Century Link, at 1192 Century Avenue, is the newest, announced in early January 2026.
Shake Shack Pudong Airport Terminal 2
Shake Shack Pudong Airport is in Terminal 2, at No. 2B-41 in the international departures area. The official address says it is only reachable after international departure controls. I found nothing saying domestic passengers or the public can get to it. Count on it only if you are flying out internationally from T2, and then it beats most of what else is airside.
Shake Shack Shanghai menu: what to order
The Shanghai menu is built on the same core as in New York: the ShackBurger, the ’Shroom Burger, crinkle-cut fries, cheese fries, shakes and frozen custard concretes. Those are also the items reviewers praise most. In 2019 the menu also offered the Shack Stack and the Shack-cago Dog.
Shanghai once had exclusives of its own. In 2019 the Strawberry Yu(zu) Garden shake layered vanilla custard, strawberry sauce, yuzu juice and matcha foam. The Shack Attack, Straw-Bei Li Cheesecake and On the Bund concretes were Shanghai-only too. They were launch items. Don’t plan a trip around them.
Shake Shack has also launched breakfast sets in China from ¥35 to win over price-conscious customers (Tencent News, 2024). I could not confirm whether they are still offered in 2026.
To make the chain’s signature burger at home, our ShackBurger copycat recipe rebuilds it step by step.
Vegetarian options at Shake Shack Shanghai
The ’Shroom Burger is Shake Shack’s vegetarian burger: a crisp-fried portobello filled with melted cheese. It cost ¥63 on the Shanghai menu at the 2019 opening, and reviewers on Trip.com and Dianping still mention it. Fries, cheese fries, shakes and concretes complete a meat-free order.

Shake Shack Shanghai prices in yuan
A meal at Shake Shack in Shanghai costs about ¥70 to ¥85 per person, according to 2024 press figures (CBNData, Tencent News). Burgers ranged from ¥38 to ¥85, a shake was about ¥40 and fries ¥34. Dianping shows an average of ¥88 per person at Xintiandi in October 2026. I could not verify a full 2026 menu, so check current prices in the WeChat mini-program or on Dianping.

Shake Shack Shanghai opening hours
Shake Shack has published no day-by-day hours for its Shanghai restaurants that I could read, and third-party listings disagree. Trip.com lists 07:00–22:00 for iapm and Grand Gateway 66. For Xintiandi, Dianping says 11:00–23:00 and Trip.com says 07:00–24:00. Mall locations usually follow their mall’s hours. I found no hours at all for the airport counter. Check the restaurant’s page on Dianping or Amap on the day.
Shake Shack Shanghai reviews: what diners say
Reviews of Shake Shack in Shanghai are positive on the food and mixed on value. On Trip.com, Xintiandi scores 4.3/5 on about 90 reviews, iapm 4.5/5 on 4 and Grand Gateway 66 4.1/5 on 7 (read October 24, 2026). Four or seven reviews prove very little; only the Xintiandi score means much. I could not read the TripAdvisor score, and Google and Yelp are not relevant in mainland China.
Shake Shack Shanghai reviews on Trip.com, read October 24, 2026: iapm 4.5/5 on 4 reviews, Xintiandi 4.3/5 on about 90 and Grand Gateway 66 4.1/5 on 7. Only the Xintiandi score rests on enough reviews to mean much. (Chart: Burger Breton, CC BY 4.0, data from Trip.com, October 24, 2026)
- Praised: the ShackBurger, the ’Shroom Burger, the crinkle-cut cheese fries, the thick shakes and the shikumen setting of Xintiandi.
- Criticized: high prices for fast food, no combo meals, queues at peak times.
- My reading of the reviews: worth it if you are already nearby, not worth a cross-town metro ride.
How I put this guide together
I have not eaten at the Shanghai Shacks for this guide, so it carries no Burger Breton score. I gathered addresses from shakeshack.com, Trip.com, Dianping, Apple Maps and local press, kept only restaurants with a named source, and dated every price and rating. Where sources contradicted each other, I say so instead of picking one.
Is Shake Shack worth it in Shanghai?
Shake Shack is worth it in Shanghai if you want a reliable American burger close to where you already are. It is a premium chain in China: at ¥70–85 per person, it costs more than most fast food, and the menu has no combos. Growth in China has slowed since 2024. The brand had 45 restaurants in China on September 10, 2024 and closed three that year, in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Wuhan, none of them in Shanghai (Tencent News, CBNData). Shanghai looks like the market Maxim’s is protecting.
My advice: go to Xintiandi for the history and the setting, once you have confirmed it is open. Go to Yu Garden for the ice cream. Save the airport counter for a long wait before an international flight. For the neighbourhoods where Shanghai’s burger bars cluster and how to pay there, see our Shanghai burger hub. Elsewhere in China, see our Shenzhen burger guide, our review of Honbo in Shenzhen and our Hong Kong burger guide. For the business side of Maxim’s Caterers and its other Shake Shack markets, read our report on burger chain international expansion in 2026.
