Best Burgers in Nuremberg: Old Town and GoHo

The best burgers in Nuremberg are found inside and just outside the walled Altstadt: on both the Sebald and Lorenz sides of the Pegnitz river, in Gostenhof (“GoHo”) to the west, and in the Südstadt beyond the main station. St. Johannis and Maxfeld, north of the walls, add neighbourhood restaurants.

Nuremberg already has a famous meat-in-a-bun: Drei im Weggla, three Nürnberger Rostbratwürste in a crusty roll with mustard, sold from street stands. The sausages are small by rule, 7 to 9 cm long and 20 to 25 g each, seasoned with marjoram and traditionally grilled over beechwood. Since 2003 they carry an EU protected geographical indication that ties them to the city. Nürnberger Lebkuchen, the spiced gingerbread, is the city’s other protected product, and both take centre stage at the Christkindlesmarkt in December.
