Best Burger in Frankfurt: Nordend to Bornheim

The best burgers in Frankfurt are found in the Nordend and in Bornheim along Berger Straße, in the Bahnhofsviertel around the main station, and across the Main in Sachsenhausen. On weekdays, the office workers of the banking district fill burger counters in the centre at lunchtime. Ostend and Bockenheim, the old university district, complete the map.

Frankfurt’s own cooking is built around two things a burger rarely meets. Grüne Soße is a cold sauce of seven herbs (borage, chervil, cress, parsley, salad burnet, sorrel and chives), served with boiled eggs and potatoes. Apfelwein, the local cider, is poured from a grey stoneware jug called a Bembel in the old taverns of Sachsenhausen. The Kleinmarkthalle, the indoor market in the city centre, sells the herb bundles for the sauce, and the Frankfurter Würstchen, a thin smoked pork sausage, takes its name from the city.
