The new burgers of 2026 that really reached customers include McDonald’s Big Arch in the US (March 3), Burger King Mexico’s Whopper Chiltepín Crunch (October 12 to December 13), Burger King France’s creator-made Löris Tomates Oignons (July 7) and dessert Ice Burger (September 8), and Dia’s 12-country World Burger Tour in Spain, built with Michelin-starred chef Aurelio Morales at €2.50 a burger. Several of the year’s buzziest items are comebacks, not inventions: Shake Shack’s Black Truffle menu and McDonald’s Korea’s Jinju Chili line both date from earlier years. Below, I separate genuine 2026 launches from returns and from trend forecasts, with a date and a source for each.

How I built this list of new burgers for 2026

Every burger on this list has a dated launch reported by an official release, the trade press or a food publication, and I checked each source on October 14, 2026. Most pages ranking for burger trends 2026 are forecasts. No products, no dates. So I set three rules: a launch counts only if the product was sold, a relaunch is labeled as a return, and a trend report is labeled as a forecast. Where a price, a name or an end date is missing from the sources, I say so rather than guess.

Global flavors: the international influences in 2026 burgers

International flavor was the strongest innovation lever of 2026, with chains borrowing chilies, cheeses and condiments from Mexico, Korea, Italy and Japan. What strikes me is how regional these ingredients are. Not just “spicy”, but a named chili from a named place.

Whopper Chiltepín Crunch, Burger King Mexico

Burger King Mexico’s Whopper Chiltepín Crunch runs from October 12 to December 13, 2026, or until stock runs out, and puts chiltepín chili in its sauces. PRODU describes the chiltepín as the “red gold” of Sonora and reports that the burger adds crunchy elements called ROBS, after its co-creator, Mexican food creator RobeGrill (PRODU, October 13, 2026). PRODU is the only source I found for the recipe details, and no price was published. If you want the base it builds on, here is what goes on a classic Whopper, and how the chain reworked it this year in our Burger King Whopper 2026 coverage.

Dia’s World Burger Tour, Spain

Spanish supermarket chain Dia launched a World Burger Tour of 12 limited-edition burgers inspired by 12 countries, made with 100% Spanish meat and priced at €2.50 each. The countries are France, the US, Italy, Argentina, Spain, Japan, Greece, Mexico, Thailand, China, Germany and India, with two new burgers released each month (Hoy Aragón, June 12, 2026). The four flavors described so far:

  • France: foie gras, black olives, crème fraîche and Comté.
  • United States: Angus bacon and aged cheddar.
  • Spain: crispy Iberian ham, Manchego and roasted garlic.
  • Japan: soy crystals, sesame, shiso and shiitake.

The €2.50 price comes from Hoy Aragón alone, and I could not load Dia’s official release to confirm the national launch date or the full flavor list.

Korea and Italy: two returns, not launches

McDonald’s Korea relaunched its Jinju Chili Cream Cheese line on August 6, 2026, as part of its Taste of Korea program, buying about 10 tonnes of chilies from Jinju. The line, which covers a beef burger, a chicken burger, a muffin and a sauce, first appeared in 2024 (Kyunghyang Shinmun, August 5, 2026). Shake Shack brought back its Black Truffle menu on September 29, 2026, with a sauce made with Umbrian truffle oil (Food Network; Time Out). The one genuinely new detail is that the truffle sauce can now be added to sides, including new Mac & Cheese Bites. Food Republic lists the Black Truffle Shack Stack at $14.79, but that is a single source and prices vary by market. To taste the base burger at home, try our ShackBurger copycat recipe.

Japan: teriyaki reaches the pop-culture menu

Japan’s flavor showed up at a US chain this year, but not in a burger. Burger King’s Dragon Ball Super menu, launched September 1, carries a teriyaki-style Super Saiyan sauce on nuggets (PR Newswire, August 31, 2026). I count it as a flavor signal, nothing more. For the teriyaki burger that set the template decades ago, see our MOS Burger teriyaki burger recipe.

Chefs and creators: who designed the new burgers of 2026

In 2026, chains handed burger design to Michelin-starred chefs, social media creators and football players. The logic is simple. A known name brings an audience and a story that a new sauce alone cannot.

Michel Sarran and Paul Pairet at Burger King France

Burger King France launched the fourth edition of its Masters du Chef on August 25, 2026, the first to pair two chefs: Michel Sarran and Paul Pairet. It covers more than 600 restaurants and about 170 franchisees under master franchisee Groupe Bertrand (L’Express Franchise). CB News reports that their joint burger pairs a merguez-spiced patty, golden crispy fries inside the bun and a Chili Aïoli sauce, backed by a Buzzman ad campaign from August 24 (CB News, August 30, 2026). Past editions sold menus at €15.30 to €16.30 with a 28% take rate. The 2026 burger’s commercial name, price and end date were not confirmed in any source I could check.

Loris Giuliano’s Löris Tomates Oignons

Burger King France launched the Löris Tomates Oignons on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in its 620 French restaurants, co-created with content creator Loris Giuliano. It comes with lettuce, fresh tomatoes, onions and white sauce, in four versions: kebab-style flame-grilled beef, chicken, tortilla and vegetarian tortilla. The recipe was picked by public vote at a concert at the Accor Arena in Paris on March 15, 2026, organized by agency Buzzman (L’Express Franchise). No price was published. Strip away the arena show and the recipe is a kebab-shop order in a burger chain’s wrapper, and I think that is precisely why it works in France.

Aurelio Morales at Dia

Dia’s World Burger Tour was created with Aurelio Morales, chef of CEBO in Madrid, which holds one Michelin star and two Repsol Suns. A starred chef signing a €2.50 supermarket burger is rare, and it is exactly why I rank this the most interesting chef collaboration of the year.

Footballers at McDonald’s Argentina

McDonald’s Argentina launched three World Cup 2026 burgers created with Alexis Mac Allister, Julián Álvarez and Enzo Fernández (La Nación, April 28, 2026):

  • McAllister: Mequinesse sauce, bacon, lettuce, tomato and white cheddar.
  • McÁlvarez: melted cheddar, pickle, crispy onion and ranch sauce.
  • McFernández: crispy chicken, bacon, ranch, lettuce, tomato and cheddar.

Textures and formats: pretzel buns, cheese curds and ice cream

Texture drove several 2026 launches, from crunchy chili bits to fried cheese curds. One Korean burger showed what happens when texture goes wrong.

Crunch and cheese in the US

Burger King US launched the Game Day Pretzel Burger on October 6, 2026: a quarter-pound patty, American cheddar, bacon, crispy onions and nacho cheese sauce on SuperPretzel buns. In September, Culver’s added the Smoked Cheddar CurderBurger, topped with a fried hickory-smoked cheddar curd, at $8.39 (Food Republic, October 10, 2026).

The Ice Burger, a dessert in a bun

Burger King France’s Ice Burger is a warm brioche bun filled with ice cream and topped with Nutella or Lotus Biscoff spread, inspired by Italian gelato traditions. Kingdom loyalty members got early access on August 25, 2026, and it went on general sale on September 8. It is not available for delivery, which makes sense: ice cream in a warm bun would not survive a scooter ride (L’Express Franchise).

The texture flop: Korea’s corn croquette burger

McDonald’s Korea’s Chungju Glutinous Corn Cheese Croquette Burger passed 1 million cumulative sales in two weeks in 2026, then was pulled early after complaints that it felt “like chewing pebbles” (Kyunghyang Shinmun). For me it is the year’s clearest lesson. A regional ingredient sells the first bite; texture decides whether there is a second order.

McDonald’s new burgers in 2026: the Big Arch and the hacks

McDonald’s biggest 2026 burger news is the Big Arch, launched in the US on March 3 as a limited edition and made permanent in the UK. The US version stacks two quarter-pound patties, three slices of melted white cheddar, crispy and slivered onions, lettuce, pickles and a sesame and poppy seed bun. It had been tested internationally about 18 months earlier (Restaurant Dive, February 25, 2026). In the UK, its price rose from £7.99 to £8.79, and on January 5 McDonald’s UK added the Surf N’ Turf Burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger, both inspired by social media hacks (Newsweek, January 7, 2026). Turning customer hacks into menu items is cheap research, and smarter than it looks. Our full market-by-market list is in new McDonald’s burgers 2026, and the pricing context sits in our burger value wars 2026 analysis.

Some burger trends 2026 articles describe are forecasts, not products, and I keep them out of the launch list. The National Restaurant Association’s What’s Hot 2026 report, published in November 2025, puts smash burgers among its trends and names bold flavors such as chili-lime, gochujang and ghost pepper hot honey (Restaurant Dive). Those are predictions about menus, not dated launches. The same goes for Burger King France’s regional Maroilles and Munster burgers: CEO Alexandre Simon described them in December 2025, but I found no confirmed 2026 launch date (Republik Retail).

What the 2026 launches tell us

The 2026 launches show chains selling provenance over vague promises: Sonora chiltepín, Jinju chili and Umbrian truffle replaced generic “spicy” and “premium” claims. The name on the box now matters almost as much as the recipe, whether it belongs to a starred chef, a YouTuber or a World Cup midfielder. And the chains are playing it safe: truffle and Jinju chili came back because they had already sold. My pick for the most original launch is still Dia’s World Burger Tour. Putting a Michelin-starred chef’s work in a €2.50 supermarket burger is a bolder bet than any fast-food comeback this year.
