New Burger King Whopper 2026: Changes, Nuggets and Every Launch

Burger King's 2026 launches, dated and sourced: the new Whopper, the new nuggets and every limited edition in the US, Canada, France and Spain.

Burger King Whopper in its paper wrap, the flame-grilled burger that got a new bun, mayo and clamshell box in 2026

The biggest Burger King change of 2026 is the new Whopper. In late February 2026, Burger King gave the Whopper its first overhaul in nearly 10 years across more than 7,000 US restaurants, with a more premium bun, a creamier mayo and a hinged clamshell box instead of paper wrap. The flame-grilled quarter-pound beef patty did not change. The second big change came on September 1, 2026, when new all-white-meat chicken nuggets reached US restaurants. Everything else this year was a limited edition: three Whopper by You burgers in the US, a burger-kebab and dessert burgers in France, and mini burgers in Spain.

I track Burger King launches in three markets for our burger news section. For this recap I kept only launches with a confirmed 2026 date and a named source: the Burger King US newsroom, US national and trade press, and French and Spanish trade media. Each one is linked below. A launch that rests on a single blog, or has no 2026 date, didn’t make the cut.

What changed in the new Burger King Whopper in 2026

The 2026 Whopper keeps its patty but changes the bun, the mayo and the packaging. Burger King announced the overhaul on February 26, 2026, the first update to the Whopper recipe in nearly a decade, according to Today.

  • Bun: a more premium bun. The Daily Meal reports Burger King tested it for months with nearly a dozen commercial bakeries, changed the pan to give the bun more height, and added a glaze that helps the sesame seeds stick (The Daily Meal, single source).
  • Mayo: a creamier, premium mayonnaise.
  • Box: a hinged clamshell box replaces the paper wrap.
  • Patty: unchanged. Still a flame-grilled quarter-pound beef patty.

Tom Curtis, president of Burger King US and Canada, presented the changes. Today reports they cost about $4,000 per restaurant per year, and that Burger King asked franchisees not to raise prices to cover it. That last detail is the one I’d underline.

Where the new Whopper is sold

The revamped Whopper rolled out to more than 7,000 restaurants in the US at the end of February 2026, per KKTV. CP24 reports it in Canada too. No source I found confirms that the new bun, mayo or box are coming to France or Spain, so for now I treat it as a North American change. For the full build of the burger and a homemade version, see our guide to Whopper ingredients and a copycat recipe.

Burger King’s new nuggets in 2026: recipe, price and date

Burger King’s new chicken nuggets have been in US restaurants since September 1, 2026, after an announcement on August 25. Here is what changed, according to NBC Palm Springs and Boston 25 News:

  • 100% white meat chicken
  • A crispier breading and a new marinade
  • Served in a box instead of a bag
  • Sauces: sweet and sour, honey mustard, buffalo, plus a limited-edition Special Savory Sauce
  • Prices: from $1.99 for 4 pieces to $7.49 for 20 pieces

The new nuggets are a US launch. No source says they are coming to France or Spain.

Whopper by You: the three 2026 limited-edition Whoppers

Whopper by You is Burger King’s US platform where guests submit their own Whopper ideas, and three of them became limited editions in early 2026. The platform launched in July 2025 and had received more than 600,000 submissions by January 2026, per the Burger King newsroom.

New Burger King items in France in 2026

Burger King France spent 2026 on regional burgers, celebrity collabs, chef burgers and dessert burgers, plus a push on French sourcing. Apart from the value menus, none of these items has an official price, so I list none: aggregator menu prices are not reliable.

Masters des Régions (February 17 to March 30)

The second edition of Masters des Régions ran from February 17 to March 30, 2026, with three regional burgers: Master Alsacien, Master Auvergnat and Master Savoyard. They paired 100% French flame-grilled beef with French cheeses, several of them AOP (protected designation of origin). The range also included King Fries Ch’ti with maroilles cheese sauce and bacon, and Gaufrette Fries (waffle fries) made from 100% French potatoes (Zepros Resto).

Value menus at €4, €5 and €6 (May 11)

On May 11, 2026, Burger King France launched its “Menus Bons & Pas Chers” value menus at €4, €5 and €6. The €4 meal pairs a King Bacon, King Chicken or King Fish with a medium fries or a medium drink (Snacking.fr). I cover how these menus fit the wider price fight in the 2026 burger value wars.

Löris Tomates Oignons, the burger-kebab (July 7)

Löris Tomates Oignons is a kebab-style range co-created with French creator Loris Giuliano, launched on July 7, 2026, in 620 French restaurants for six weeks. It had a beef burger, a chicken burger and two tortillas, one of them veggie, all with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, white sauce and an XXL algérienne sauce (a spicy French kebab-shop sauce). The ingredients were picked by the applause of about 15,000 people at the Accor Arena in Paris on March 15, 2026 (L’Express Franchise, La Réclame). A six-week run put its end in mid-August.

Boomer King meal (July 21)

The Boomer King meal, launched on July 21, 2026, in more than 600 French restaurants, bundles a burger, fries, a drink and a random collectible. Guests pick one of 10 burgers, including the Whopper, Big King, Steakhouse and Big Fish, and get a mug, glass, T-shirt or pair of socks. It also brought back Canada Dry and the King Fusion Galak dessert. The agency was Buzzman (L’Express Franchise).

Masters du Chef with Michel Sarran and Paul Pairet (August 25)

Burger King France’s 2026 Masters du Chef range was announced for August 25 with two chefs for the first time: Michel Sarran and Paul Pairet. It was set for more than 600 restaurants, run by about 170 franchisees under Groupe Bertrand’s master franchise (L’Express Franchise). The burger names, ingredients, prices and end date were not confirmed when I published.

Ice Burger with Nutella or Lotus Biscoff (August 25 and September 8)

The Ice Burger is a warm brioche bun filled with vanilla ice cream, in a Nutella version with caramelized hazelnuts or a Lotus Biscoff version with cookie sauce and pieces. Members of the Kingdom loyalty program got it from August 25, 2026, and everyone from September 8, after a test around Paris. It is only sold in participating restaurants, and not for delivery (L’Express Franchise, Sporked).

Golden apples in the King Junior kids’ meal (from October 28)

Starting October 28, 2026, King Junior kids’ meals in France’s roughly 600 Burger Kings will offer Golden apple slices. The apples carry the IGP (protected geographical indication) label, come from orchards certified “Vergers écoresponsables” and are grown by 35 farming families in the Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The deal runs with the fair-pay brand “C’est qui le Patron ?!”: growers are paid €0.80 per kg, for 300 metric tons a year (Restauration21).

Where Burger King France sources its ingredients

Burger King France makes its burger buns in France with 100% French wheat flour, and 74% of the volume in its priority supply chains comes from French farms (Zepros Resto). The chain bought €777 million from French suppliers in 2025, up from €775 million in 2024 (Restauration21).

New Burger King items in Spain in 2026

Spain’s 2026 launches were all limited editions: mini burgers, a Western-style double and a Pringles flavor.

  • Baby Burgers (early February): mini versions of the Whopper, Steakhouse and Big King with the original recipes, already available by February 4, 2026. The campaign, “Te faltarán manos”, was made by the agency David Madrid (Hostelería Salamanca). Price, pack size and end date not confirmed.
  • Western BBQ (April): double flame-grilled patty, cheddar, smoked bacon, crispy onion rings and BBQ sauce, at €7.49 alone or €10.49 as a meal, per an April 21 report (Moncloa.com).
  • Baby Burgers Bacon Cheddar (summer): Baby Bacon Cheddar, Baby Bacon Cheddar & Onion and Baby Bacon Cheddar Chicken, with new XXL cheddar and bacon dips. Marketing director Yvette Altet fronted the launch (Marketing Directo).
  • Pringles Steakhouse (September 8 to November 24): Pringles flavored like Burger King’s Steakhouse sauce, with Burger King rewards on every purchase (Periódico Publicidad). Price not stated.

What really changed in the recipes in 2026

Only two Burger King recipes truly changed in 2026, and both are North American: the Whopper (bun, mayo, box) in the US and Canada, and the nuggets in the US. In France, the lasting change is in sourcing rather than recipes: French-made buns, French suppliers and Golden apples in the kids’ meal. Everything else on this list is a time-limited promotion.

My take: the Whopper overhaul is the only launch here that will still matter in 2027. A limited edition buys a news cycle. A new bun and box change every Whopper sold in North America, and asking franchisees to absorb about $4,000 a year per restaurant instead of raising prices shows where Burger King is placing its bet: on the core burger, not on novelty. France ran the opposite playbook, a summer of six-week stunts. There, the part I’d actually watch is the quiet one: French buns and French apples.

Menus are only half the picture. To see what Burger King restaurants look like outside Europe and North America, read our visits to Burger King in Cairo and Burger King in Bandung.
