Kiran Jethwa’s restaurant in Nairobi is now F’EAST Bar & Kitchen, a shared-plates gastro-bar at ABC Place, Waiyaki Way, Westlands, where he is Executive Chef. It replaced Seven Seafood & Grill, the seafood and steak house he founded at the same address, which closed after some fifteen years. Neither has ever been a burger restaurant. If a burger is what brought you here, skip ahead to our guide to the best burgers in Nairobi.

Is Seven Seafood & Grill closed?

Yes. Seven Seafood & Grill at ABC Place has closed, and F’EAST Bar & Kitchen now trades from the same address with the same phone number. Jethwa presents the closure as making room for his next chapter, F’EAST, on the same site (F’EAST official site). I checked for myself on 10 October 2026: Seven’s old domain, experienceseven.com, answers with a permanent (301) redirect to feast.co.ke.

Status check, 10 October 2026: Seven Seafood & Grill at ABC Place is closed and F’EAST Bar & Kitchen (96 covers: 74 indoor, 22 on the terrace) runs at the same address with the same phone, +254 737 776 677. Kiran Jethwa is Executive Chef. (Table: Burger Breton, data from feast.co.ke (official site, checked 13 October 2026))

Plenty of listings haven’t caught up. Directory pages on hangout.co.ke, Wanderlog and other aggregators still show Seven as open. Ignore them. What I could not find is a dated primary source for the day Seven closed or the day F’EAST opened, so I give neither date.

Who is Kiran Jethwa, the chef behind Seven and F’EAST?

Kiran Jethwa is a Nairobi-born chef, restaurateur and TV presenter who founded Seven Seafood & Grill and is now Executive Chef of F’EAST Bar & Kitchen. He was born in Nairobi on 22 August 1976 to a Gujarati Indian father and an English mother, and studied hospitality management in Manchester, UK (Wikipedia; Campbell Bell Communications).

His agency and the press call his cooking Indo-Mediterranean or Afro-Mediterranean, with a clear Indian streak and a bias for shared, family-style eating. The thread is easy to follow: Seven’s seafood platters then, F’EAST’s social plates now.

Kiran Jethwa’s TV shows

Kiran Jethwa has presented food and adventure television for Fox, Channel 4, KTN Home and Hulu. The list below comes from Wikipedia and his official biography:

  • Tales from the Bush Larder (Fox International): host and producer, three seasons. His own site credits it with a Kalasha Award for Best TV Show.
  • The Fearless Chef: host.
  • Food Unwrapped (Channel 4): co-presenter since 2016.
  • The Great Kenyan Bake Off (KTN Home): judge on season 1, which started on 7 October 2019.
  • Chefs vs. Wild (Hulu): host since 2022.

Awards and recent ventures

Jethwa’s own site lists four industry awards. He was named Taste Industry Champion (2013) and Chefs Delight Most Innovative Chef (2013 and 2016). Seven took Best Signature Seafood Cuisine Restaurant and Best Signature Steakhouse Restaurant (2016). All of them come from his official biography. Treat them as self-reported.

On 28 April 2025, TGP International named him ambassador for its hospitality projects in Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda and across Africa. The announcement cited Seven Seafood & Grill, Rahisi Foods and The Kenyan Good Food Company, plus a Seven Seafood outlet at the Alkebulan African Dining Hall, the Expo 2020 Dubai food hall (Africa.com; Expo 2020 Dubai). Whether that Dubai outlet still trades, I could not confirm.

What Seven Seafood & Grill was known for

Seven Seafood & Grill was a premium seafood and steak restaurant that flew fish and shellfish in from the Kenyan coast and aged and butchered Kenyan beef in house. Oysters, lobster, prawns, crayfish and line-caught fish filled the menu, according to reviews by The Expat Mummy and Culture Trip.

The dishes those reviews name show how wide the Indo-Mediterranean range went: lobster cappuccino, Greek whole snapper, dry-aged rump steak, Malindi sole, seafood paella, crab bao, whole catch ceviche. If I had to name Seven’s legacy, though, it would be the supply line rather than any one plate. It put the catch from Mombasa and the Kenyan coast on Westlands tables as a premium product.

Seven Seafood & Grill timeline, 2010 to today

Seven ran from around 2010 until it closed some fifteen years later. The opening year is disputed. His agency says October 2010 (Campbell Bell); Wikipedia dates his role as chef and owner to 2011. I go with 2010, because it comes with a month.

Date Event Source
October 2010 Jethwa founds Seven Restaurants Ltd and opens Seven Seafood & Grill at ABC Place (Wikipedia says 2011) Campbell Bell
March 2013 Seven Grill & Lounge opens at Village Market: a modern steakhouse with an open kitchen, average meal about KES 2,000 at the time Capital FM, 11 March 2013

Some fifteen years after opening (exact date not published) Seven at ABC Place closes and F’EAST Bar & Kitchen replaces it feast.co.ke

Seven Seafood & Grill timeline: opened at ABC Place in October 2010 (2011 per Wikipedia). Seven Grill & Lounge opened at Village Market in March 2013 with an average meal of about KES 2,000. F’EAST took over after Seven’s 14-year run, on an unpublished date. (Table: Burger Breton, sources Capital FM (11 March 2013), Campbell Bell, feast.co.ke)

Capital FM documented the Village Market opening. Since then, nothing reliable. I am not going to call that branch open or closed.

F’EAST Bar & Kitchen Nairobi: what replaced Seven

F’EAST Bar & Kitchen is a 96-cover gastro-bar at ABC Place with indoor and terrace seating, and Kiran Jethwa is its Executive Chef. Its own tagline reads “Local produce, with Eastern accents. Creative social dining”: in practice, shared plates, open-flame cooking and Kenyan produce with Asian influences (F’EAST official site).

When I checked, F’EAST’s menu page returned an error, so I list no dishes and no KES prices. Opening hours are no clearer. The official site says it opens from 11:30 daily; a search snippet says 08:00 to 17:00. Both can’t be right. Call +254 737 776 677 before you go.

Restaurants at ABC Place, Westlands: getting there

ABC Place stands on Waiyaki Way in Westlands, Nairobi’s main dining and nightlife district west of the CBD. F’EAST occupies Seven’s former space and kept the old number, +254 737 776 677. So if an old listing sends you to “Seven” at ABC Place, you will walk into F’EAST.

Does Kiran Jethwa’s restaurant serve burgers?

No burger is documented at Seven Seafood & Grill or at F’EAST Bar & Kitchen, and neither ever sold itself as a burger place. I went through the official sites, the reviews and the press looking for a signature burger, a house blend or a burger technique. Nothing. Seven was a seafood and steak house; F’EAST is a shared-plates gastro-bar.

That is not a criticism, just a fact worth knowing before you cross town for a burger. Jethwa sits next to Nairobi’s burger boom, not inside it, and none of the current city rankings mention him, from Toasterding’s five best burgers (updated 24 February 2026) to Business Daily’s piece on KES 4,500 burgers. Go to ABC Place for the cooking. Go elsewhere for the burger.

Where to eat the best burgers in Nairobi instead

For burgers in Nairobi, start with our city hub, which lists the burger spots we have checked. The scene is big, and it runs on chicken. Nairobi Burger Week ran from 27 August to 6 September 2026 with more than 400 participating restaurants (Capital FM). Toasterding reports that chicken burgers made up 83.15% of burger delivery orders in the first half of 2026, a figure I found in that one source only (Toasterding).

How I checked this profile

I built this profile from official sources first, then dated press and reviews, and checked every link on 10 October 2026. Official: F’EAST’s website, Jethwa’s own biography, his agency profile. Dated press: Capital FM, Africa.com, Business Daily. Reviews: The Expat Mummy and Culture Trip. Where sources disagree (Seven’s opening year, F’EAST’s hours), I say so. Where none exists (closure date, F’EAST menu and prices, Village Market status), I leave the fact out rather than guess.
