The best burger in Berlin in 2026 is the Dry Aged Burger at Goldies Bar, on the sixth floor of KaDeWe. It ranks No. 47 on the World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list, the highest German entry. Grindhouse Burgers in Prenzlauer Berg (No. 52) and the original Goldies smash burger counters in Kreuzberg (No. 95) follow, and no other German restaurant made the list. On a budget, or for the most Berlin burger setting there is, go to Burgermeister: a kiosk built into a former public toilet under the U1 viaduct at Schlesisches Tor.

I cover Germany for Burger Breton, and I built this ranking from the people who track Berlin’s burgers most closely: the World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list, Berlin Food Stories (its 2024 burger ranking and its April 2026 steakhouse burger list), Time Out, tip Berlin and visitBerlin. Then I checked addresses and prices against each restaurant’s own pages where they exist. Every source was checked on October 29, 2026. Where I have an opinion, I say so. Where a fact is missing, I say that too.

Where to eat the best burger in Berlin: the ranking

1. Goldies Bar (KaDeWe, Schöneberg): the best burger in Berlin

Goldies Bar serves the highest-ranked burger in Germany: No. 47 on the World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list. It is the steakhouse spin-off of the Goldies smash burger counters, and it opened in fall 2025 (early October, according to the press) in the sixth-floor gourmet hall of the KaDeWe department store.

The Dry Aged Burger costs €36 with fries. You get a 250 g patty of dry-aged Angus beef seared in beef fat, with American cheddar on a brioche bun. That is the top of the Berlin market and almost twice Grindhouse’s weekend burger. My advice: treat it as a splurge for an occasion, not as the benchmark for what a good Berlin burger should cost.

  • Address: KaDeWe, 6th floor, Tauentzienstraße 21-24, 10789 Berlin (Schöneberg)

  • Why it stands out: No. 47 worldwide in 2026, the best German result on the list

2. Grindhouse Burgers (Prenzlauer Berg): the best steak au poivre burger

Grindhouse Burgers in Prenzlauer Berg ranks No. 52 on the World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list, second in Germany. Its Steak au Poivre Burger costs €19.90 with fries: two 120 g patties of US Prime beef under a French-style peppercorn sauce.

It is served on weekends only. A top-two burger in Germany for just over half the price of Goldies Bar is, to me, the best value at the top of this list. If you can only fit one serious burger into a Berlin trip, make it Saturday lunch here.

3. Goldies Smashburger (Kreuzberg): the best smash burger in Berlin

Goldies makes the best smash burger in Berlin, and it is the name that put the city on international burger lists. It ranks No. 95 on the World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list. In 2024, Burgerdudes ranked it No. 25 on its World’s 25 Best Burgers, the only German pick, calling it “arguably the best burger in Germany”.

The founders are chefs Vladislav Gachyn and Kajo Hiesl, who both cooked at Aqua in Wolfsburg, a three-Michelin-star restaurant. Their motto: “Best bad food in town”. Berlin Food Stories dates their switch from fries to burgers to around 2019, and the Graefestraße counter, Goldies Smash Burger, opened in 2021.

4. Burgermeister Schlesisches Tor (Kreuzberg): Berlin’s most famous burger

Burgermeister is Berlin’s most famous burger joint because of where it is: a listed former public toilet under the U1 elevated railway at Schlesisches Tor. It opened in 2006. According to the company’s own story, the founder spotted the building in 2003 and spent three years getting the permits.

The Cheeseburger comes with cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, ketchup and mayo. The Meisterburger adds bacon, caramelized onions, barbecue sauce and mustard. Time Out recommends the double-patty Fleischermeister with cheese fries, plus the vegan Waldmeister, and still calls the original kiosk “the very best in the city”. I rank it fourth for the setting as much as the burger: eating under the viaduct while the U1 rumbles overhead is something no steakhouse can sell you.

5. The Bird (Prenzlauer Berg): a New York steakhouse burger

The Bird is a New York-style steakhouse bar facing Mauerpark that grinds its beef in-house every day. Its Steakhouse Burger costs €17 with fries, plus €1 for a brioche bun, and the patty weighs more than 250 g. A potato bun has recently replaced the English muffin the bar was known for. Older guides still quote prices “from €9.50” and the muffin: both are out of date.

6. ALL IN. (Prenzlauer Berg): a cheeseburger-only counter

ALL IN. is a cheeseburger counter that opened in 2023 on Schönhauser Allee. The menu is short on purpose: cheeseburgers, crinkle-cut fries and milkshakes. The inspiration is 7th Street Burger in New York, and the dining room is red from floor to ceiling. A menu this short leaves a smash counter nowhere to hide, and I like that.

  • Address: Schönhauser Allee 173, 10119 Berlin (Prenzlauer Berg)
  • Signature: the cheeseburger with crinkle fries

7. Golt’z Burger (Lichtenrade): the smash burger worth the trip

Golt’z Burger is a smash burger spot at the city’s southern edge, right where Berlin meets Brandenburg. Patties go on Martin’s Potato Rolls with a smoky, mayo-based house sauce. No ketchup, no mustard. It is the farthest address on this list from the center, and the only one I would cross the whole city for on a smash burger alone.

8. Gully Burger (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf): an Indian-spiced diner burger

Gully Burger crosses the American diner burger with North Indian spices. Founder Sachin Obaid builds it around a spiced shami-style patty, chili onions and green chutney mayo, and serves it inside The Hoxton hotel in Charlottenburg. The Tavern Lamb Burger costs €16.

9. Kumpel & Keule (Markthalle Neun, Kreuzberg): the butcher’s burger

Kumpel & Keule is a craft butcher inside Markthalle Neun, and its burger shows off the meat counter. Dry-aged beef meets Deichkäse, a German semi-hard cheese, with tomato and lamb’s lettuce in a bun from the Sironi bakery. It is the most German burger on this list.

10. Berlin Burger International (Neukölln): the sticker-covered favorite

Berlin Burger International, known as BBI, is a small counter covered in stickers, five minutes’ walk from Hermannplatz station. Its most quoted burgers are the Avocado Bacon and a vegetarian halloumi burger. visitBerlin also mentions port-wine shallots, a fig-mustard sauce and truffle mayo.

Smash burger vs. steakhouse burger: how Berlin’s burger scene changed

Berlin’s burger scene is moving from the cheap smash burger to the thick, premium steakhouse burger. In September 2025, Berlin Food Stories called it “the end of the smashburger era”, putting a smash burger at around €9 against €15 to €25 for the new steakhouse burgers.

Berlin burger prices in 2026, in euros: smash burger about €9, Mogg €12.50 (no fries), Gully Burger €16, The Bird €17 (with fries), Grindhouse €19.90 (with fries), Goldies Bar €36 (with fries). Data: Berlin Food Stories, 2025-2026. Render it as a local SVG/WebP at 800×450 with lazy loading and localized labels. (Chart: Burger Breton, original work; data: Berlin Food Stories (2025-2026))

This ranking reflects that shift. Three of my top five (Goldies Bar, Grindhouse and The Bird) serve steakhouse patties of 240 g or more. My take: Grindhouse and The Bird are where the trend makes sense for the money, while €36 at Goldies Bar is the outlier. For how prices are moving on the chains’ side, read our coverage of the 2026 burger value wars.

Worth a detour if you are in Neukölln: Mogg, Paul Mogg’s New York deli, opened in Mitte in 2012, closed in 2023 and has reopened in the Kalle Halle at Karl-Marx-Straße 101, 12043 Berlin. Its Truffle Steakhouse Burger costs €12.50 without fries, the cheapest steakhouse burger I found in the 2026 lists.

Best burger neighborhoods: Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg

Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg have the most top-rated burgers in Berlin, with three spots each in this top 10. In Kreuzberg, you can walk from Burgermeister at Schlesisches Tor to Goldies on Oranienstraße and Kumpel & Keule at Markthalle Neun. In Prenzlauer Berg, Grindhouse sits on Kollwitzstraße, ALL IN. on Schönhauser Allee and The Bird faces Mauerpark. Neukölln adds BBI and Mogg.

How I picked these Berlin burger restaurants

I ranked each restaurant on its position in independent rankings, its signature burger as described by recent sources, and how verifiable its details are. The World’s 101 Best Burgers 2026 list set the top three. Berlin Food Stories, Time Out, tip Berlin and visitBerlin decided the rest. I left out any place I could not tie to a current source, such as Smashy n’ Crunchy in Moabit, until I can confirm it is still open. No restaurant paid to be listed.

I could not confirm 2026 opening hours for Golt’z Burger, Kumpel & Keule, BBI and ALL IN., so check their Google Maps listings or Instagram before you go.
