The best burger in Chengdu is in Tongzilin, the Western-food quarter of Wuhou District. Two names matter: Burger Austine, which advertises 100% Australian beef, and Burger Brothers, where a former 5-star-hotel pastry chef bakes the buns. At Burger Austine, budget about 60–80 CNY per person. Neither listing is dated, so check Dianping or call ahead.

If I had one evening, I would go to Burger Brothers. A kitchen that bakes its own buns is making a choice most burger bars skip, and you taste the bun in every bite. Burger Austine is the safer bet if you want a straightforward beef burger and a cold Australian lager.

Best burger in Chengdu: the shortlist

The two Tongzilin restaurants that come up again and again in the sources are Burger Austine for Australian beef and Burger Brothers for house-baked buns. A third, Red Beard, has stopped serving on Tongzilin South Road. I checked every listing on 29 October 2026.

Burger Austine: Australian beef in Tongzilin

Burger Austine is a burger bar at 22/9, 1F Tongzilin South Road, Wuhou District, next to Iron Pig BBQ. Its Chengdu Expat listing advertises 100% Australian beef and puts the bill at about 60–80 CNY per person.

The menu is written for expats missing home: Dad’s Burger, a Hawaiian Beef Burger, a Breakfast Burger and the Cheesy Cheesy on a black bun. A Victoria Bitter costs 35 CNY. That beer tells you who the place is for.

  • Address: 22/9, 1F Tongzilin South Road, Wuhou District, Chengdu (next to Iron Pig BBQ)
  • Hours: 11:00–14:00 and 16:30–21:30
  • Price: about 60–80 CNY per person; Victoria Bitter 35 CNY
  • Order: the Cheesy Cheesy on its black bun
  • Source: Chengdu Expat listing, undated, checked 29 October 2026

Watch the afternoon break. The kitchen closes between 14:00 and 16:30, and since the listing is undated, those hours may have moved. Turning up at 15:00 is the easiest way to miss it.

Burger Brothers: the founders behind Chengdu’s house-baked buns

Burger Brothers is a Tongzilin burger restaurant run by Kaan and Halil, a Turkish-English duo. Halil used to be a pastry chef in a 5-star hotel, and he bakes the buns himself. Go for the buns.

The menu runs to about 10 burgers, with vegetarian and vegan options and a Kobe beef burger as an occasional special. Of the burger kitchens in Chengdu, it is the only one with a vegan choice that I could document.

Kaan and Halil are the closest Chengdu has to a chef-owner burger story. I could not verify their surnames, the year they opened or the exact street address, and Halil’s hotel career rests on a single listing. I have left those details out rather than guess.

Is there a Sichuan burger in Chengdu?

Not one I could verify today. Chengdu’s documented Sichuan burger was at Red Beard Burgers, a family-run spot on Tongzilin South Road where chef Nick paired imported American beef with Chinese-style toppings.

According to a Chengdu Expat review, Red Beard stopped serving there “a few years ago”. Aggregators such as Wanderlog still list it as if nothing changed, which is exactly how undated guides send visitors to empty addresses.

Mala is the flavour a true Sichuan burger would need: the numbing tingle of Sichuan peppercorn layered with dried chilli. In a city that puts it in hot pot, noodles and tofu, nobody has yet built a burger around it that I could find. That surprises me, and it is a gap waiting for a kitchen to fill.

Tongzilin: Chengdu’s burger street

Tongzilin is where Chengdu’s Western-style burger kitchens cluster. Every venue in this guide sits on or near Tongzilin South Road, a short walk from Tongzilin metro station on Line 1.

Tongzilin and neighbouring Yulin have long been the city’s bar, café and Western-food quarter, so a burger crawl here takes minutes on foot. Burger Austine and the former Red Beard site share the same street. For the other areas worth searching, Taikoo Li and the Hi-Tech Zone, see our Chengdu burger city guide.

How much does a burger cost in Chengdu?

Expect about 60–80 CNY per person at Burger Austine, the only venue with a published price range, plus 35 CNY for a Victoria Bitter. I found no verified prices for Burger Brothers.

Menus are priced in renminbi (CNY, or yuan), and most bills are paid by phone through WeChat Pay or Alipay. The source listing has no date, so read these figures as a guide rather than a quote.

Yu Bo (喻波) is a Chengdu chef famous for avant-garde Sichuan banquets at Yu’s Family Kitchen (喻家厨房), and he has no link to burgers. If you landed here searching his name, here are the facts. He has no burger concept, no signature burger and no role in the city’s burger scene.

In 2015 the restaurant moved from the Kuanzhai Xiang area to his home in the Tianfu New Area. In 2017 VICE Munchies reported it temporarily closed while he split his time with Los Angeles, and in 2018 Food & Wine reported his move to the San Gabriel Valley. His official Linktree now reads “Sichuan Chef based in LA”. I could not confirm whether the Chengdu restaurant is open in 2026.

How I built this guide

This guide comes from restaurant listings, aggregator pages and food press, each checked on 29 October 2026. I have not eaten at these restaurants yet, so there is no rating.

A venue made the list only when a source gave its location and its menu. I flagged every undated listing and marked Red Beard as closed rather than letting it linger. Before you go, confirm hours on Dianping or Meituan, on the restaurant’s WeChat account, or by phone.
