If you want the best burger in Daejeon from a shop that was born in the city, go to Burgiz (버기즈). Owner Song Min-gyu (송민규) founded it on 23 September 2017, and it now has two confirmed branches: the original in Tanbang-dong (Seo-gu) and a second in Eoeun-dong, next to KAIST. The local press names the Bacon Cheese Burger as its signature. In October 2026, burgers at the Eoeun branch were listed at 10,300 to 13,800 KRW. Burgiz is my pick for one reason above the others: local papers have covered it since 2018, which is longer than any other handmade burger shop in the city has been covered. Its founder and its idea are both on record.

Who founded Burgiz in Daejeon?

Burgiz was founded on 23 September 2017 by its owner and representative, Song Min-gyu. That date comes from the company’s own profile on the job site Albamon, which lists 10 employees and a registered address on the first floor of 759 Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.

The same profile states the founding idea in one line. Burgiz wants to serve a burger that is a full meal, not a snack you eat just to get by (“단순히 한 끼를 때우기 위한 간식거리가 아닌 한 끼 식사로 손색없는 버거”). It also says it wants to become a Daejeon landmark. For a ten-person shop, that is a big ambition.

What the sources don’t say: where Song Min-gyu trained, where he cooked before, or why he chose burgers. I would rather leave that blank than guess. The rest of his story needs an interview.

Burgiz’s place in Daejeon’s handmade burger scene

Burgiz is one of the names that keeps coming up in Daejeon’s handmade burger (수제버거) scene. Korean listing sites such as DiningCode and Siksinhot put it alongside Twoway Burger, Taejon Burger (대전버거), American Cheeseburger and Burgerry. The local press has come back to it more than once. HelloDD (헬로디디) profiled the Tanbang shop on 5 July 2018 under the headline “Burgiz, where the patty is alive” (HelloDD). Seven years later, on 31 July 2025, Chungcheong Shinmun (충청신문) ran “Burger with wit and sincerity, Tanbang-dong Burgiz” (Chungcheong Shinmun).

The English-language web tells you much less. Restaurant Guru includes Burgiz (Tanbang) in its October 2026 Daejeon burger ranking (Restaurant Guru), but neither it nor any other aggregator names the people behind the shops. The scores also swing from one site to the next and are based on few reviews. I don’t treat any of them as a verdict.

What to order at Burgiz

Order the Bacon Cheese Burger first: Chungcheong Shinmun calls it the house signature. If you want a second burger, the Mushroom Burger adds fried shiitake and mozzarella. The 2025 menu also has the Godfather and the Hangover, plus milkshakes and sweet potato fries served with ice cream.

The Eoeun branch alone has 14 handmade burgers and 5 kinds of fries, according to a community post on Welfarehello. The Tanbang shop takes custom orders and sells its own keychains and T-shirts.

Burgiz Eoeun: a burger near KAIST

For a burger near KAIST, go to Burgiz Eoeun, on the first floor of 16 Eoeun-ro 52beon-gil, Yuseong-gu. It is open every day from 11:10 to 20:30, with last orders at 19:50, according to DiningCode and Welfarehello (checked 16 October 2026). The room is small, about 20 seats, with an American-roadside interior. Queues form at lunch and dinner. If you are coming from campus, arrive before noon or after 19:00. Don’t leave it later than that, because the kitchen takes its last order at 19:50.

Burgiz Tanbang: the original shop

The original Burgiz is in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu. In 2025 it opened from 11:10 to 20:30, with last orders at 19:50 (Chungcheong Shinmun). It has outdoor seating and welcomes pets. If you have a dog with you, go to this branch.

Check the address before you set out. In 2018, HelloDD gave the road address as 61 Gyeryong-ro 553beon-an-gil, Seo-gu (계룡로553번안길 61; HelloDD’s English version spells it “Gyeongnyong-ro”), with phone 042-486-3535 and hours of 11:30 to 22:00. The hours have changed since then. The company’s registered lot address is 759 Tanbang-dong, and I could not confirm that the two addresses point to the same building. Search 버기즈 탄방 on Naver Map or Kakao Map first.

Before Burgiz: House Grill and Daejeon’s first American burgers

Before Burgiz, Daejeon’s expats ate burgers at House Grill. It was a small American-style diner run by owner-chef Brian Kim, who had lived and cooked in the United States. The blog Daejeon Access reviewed it on 9 February 2012 and mentioned a second branch in Gung-dong (Daejeon Access).

A Fulbright Korea city guide by Misa Kabashima, an English teaching assistant in 2010–12, put House Grill at Orange Town Building #119, 423-4 Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, near Lotte Department Store and exit 4 of Yongmun Station. It opened 11:30 to 22:00 and closed on Tuesdays. Burgers cost 9,000 to 12,000 KRW; sets with fries and a drink, 10,000 to 12,000 KRW. Reviewers picked out the chili cheese burger and the mozzarella burger (Fulbright Korea Infusion).

The budget option back then was Buns-n-Stuff in Gung-dong, the university district, with American burgers at 4,500 to 6,500 KRW, according to a Fulbright guide by Rachel Lim, a teaching assistant in 2012–14 (Fulbright Korea Infusion).

Daejeon’s first American-style burgers, 2012–2014: House Grill (owner-chef Brian Kim, Goejeong-dong near Yongmun Station exit 4, burgers 9,000–12,000 KRW, closed Tuesdays) and Buns-n-Stuff (Gung-dong, 4,500–6,500 KRW). Historical data; neither is confirmed open in 2026. (Table: Burger Breton, CC BY 4.0, data from Fulbright Korea Infusion (Misa Kabashima; Rachel Lim) and Daejeon Access (9 February 2012))

Treat both as history. I found no proof that House Grill is open in 2026, and none of my sources say what Brian Kim has done since.

How much does a burger cost in Daejeon in 2026?

In October 2026, a handmade burger in Daejeon costs about 9,900 to 14,900 KRW. The cheapest is Taejon Burger’s Cheeseburger and the most expensive is its Daejeon Expo Burger. Burgiz Eoeun sits in between, at 10,300 to 13,800 KRW. For comparison, House Grill topped out at 12,000 KRW in 2012, so the top of the range has climbed by about 2,900 KRW in fourteen years.

Burgers elsewhere in Korea

Daejeon’s handmade burger shops are small, local businesses, very different from the global chains. My colleague Noah follows how those chains open abroad in his report on burger chain international expansion in 2026. If you’re travelling on through Korea, see our city pages for burgers in Seoul, Busan, Daegu and Incheon. Our Daejeon coverage is collected on the Daejeon burger hub, and every city is listed in the Restaurants section.

How I built this guide

I did not eat at Burgiz for this piece, and the page gives no rating. Every fact comes from the sources linked in the text: Burgiz’s own company profile, two Korean newspaper articles (2018 and 2025), DiningCode listings and Fulbright Korea’s archived city guides. I checked all of them on 16 October 2026. Historical facts carry their dates. Where sources disagree or could not be read, as with the Tanbang address and the official site burgiz.com, I say so in the text.
