Who founded Prime Burger in Phuket?
Tobias Garneij, a Swedish national, founded Prime Burger in Phuket in 2019. The year comes from the company’s own About page (Prime Burger, About). Some aggregators give 2018. I trust the company on its own birthday. Time Out Phuket and the food blog Zoy To The World both name Garneij as the founder (Time Out Phuket, Zoy To The World).

Start with the Stockholm, the burger that made Prime Burger’s name in Phuket. After that, it depends on what you want. The Paris brings bacon and truffle mayo. The Bangkok and the Phuket bring chili heat. The San Francisco is the plant-based one.

The Stockholm burger, ingredient by ingredient
The Prime Burger Stockholm is a smash burger with cheese, pickled red onions, pickles, tomato, lettuce and the house Prime Sauce. That’s how Zoy To The World described it in November 2023, and later press summaries match. 2 sour toppings on one burger is a deliberate choice: against a seared, fatty patty, the acid does the work that ketchup usually does.
Single, double or triple: patty sizes
A single has one 130 g patty. A double has 2 95 g patties, and a triple has 3 (Prime Burger, Zoy To The World). My pick is the double. It has only 60 g more beef than the single, but 2 seared surfaces instead of 1, and the crust is the reason to order a smash burger.

I couldn’t verify opening hours for each branch, or which one opened first. Check the official site or Google Maps before you go.
Prime Burger’s awards: what won, and when
The Stockholm won Best Burger at Phuket’s burger competition. The sources give different years, so here is each version with its source.
- Official site: Best Vegan Burger 2019 (San Francisco); Best Burger 2020 (Stockholm) and Best Vegan Burger 2020 (San Francisco) at Phuket Burger Fest; Best Beef Burger 2024 (New York) (Prime Burger, About).
- The Phuket News and Zoy To The World: the Stockholm won Phuket’s Best Burger 2019, and a halloumi burger came second in the vegetarian/vegan category (The Phuket News).
Until the organizers confirm it, I won’t pin the Stockholm’s win to a single year. I also couldn’t find out who organized the 2024 Best Beef Burger award. Honestly, ‘award-winning’ on the menu tells you less than the patty weights do.
How Prime Burger makes its smash burger
A smash burger is a ball of ground beef pressed thin onto a very hot griddle, so the outside browns into a crust while the inside stays juicy. Prime Burger smashes each patty to order.
According to The Phuket News, Garneij had a custom stainless-steel smasher made: a round press with ridges in its base. (I could only read the search snippet; the article page was blocked when I checked on 14 October 2026.)
The official site says the beef is 100% Australian, imported and ground fresh every day, and the buns are baked by hand daily. 1 press summary describes an Australian grass-fed Angus blend of 70% chuck and 30% brisket. The official site doesn’t say that, so treat it as reported, not confirmed. For other smash burger specialists in Asia, compare Bikini Bottom Express in Da Nang and Beyondburg in Bangalore.
Halal, vegan and delivery
Prime Burger is halal-certified, including its beef and chicken suppliers, per the official FAQ. That matters in Phuket, which has a large Muslim community and many visitors from the Middle East and Malaysia.
Vegans get the San Francisco: a Beyond Meat patty, vegan cheese and vegan chili mayo. Most locations deliver through Grab (GrabFood), also per the FAQ.
