MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi, at 1-9-28 Nishishinsaibashi in Chuo-ku, is the MOS Burger in Osaka I’d send most visitors to. It’s central. It’s open every day from 7am to 10pm. And its reviews hold up: 4.0/5 on Google from 591 reviews. Since the price rise of July 15, 2026, the signature MOS Burger costs ¥500 and the Teriyaki Burger ¥490, tax included. Below are four more useful branches (Universal CityWalk, Abenobashi, Utsubo-Honmachi, Showa-cho), a dated menu with prices, what reviewers say, and answers to the questions travelers ask most.

How I put this MOS Burger Osaka guide together

This guide draws on official MOS sources, Japanese business press and review platforms, all checked on October 9, 2026. Let me be upfront: I haven’t eaten at the Osaka branches listed here, so the branch verdicts rest on published reviews and listings, not on my own visit. I took prices from the July 2026 price list as reported by Impress Watch and Jiji Press, because MOS’s own press release for it now returns an error. Addresses, phone numbers and opening hours come from Tabelog, Retty and Wanderlog. Every rating has a source. Anything I couldn’t verify is out, including seat counts, Wi-Fi and payment options at Nishi-Shinsaibashi.

Hours and prices change. Check the official MOS Burger store search for Osaka before you go. MOS itself notes that prices can differ at some branches (一部店舗では価格が異なります).

What is MOS Burger? A short history of Japan’s own burger chain

MOS Burger is a Japanese burger chain founded by Atsushi Sakurada. It is known for cooking burgers to order and for Japanese flavors such as teriyaki and the rice burger. A test stand opened in March 1972 near Narimasu Station in Tokyo, and Mos Food Services was incorporated on July 21, 1972 (Wikipedia, The Shashi).

  • What MOS stands for: “Mountain, Ocean, Sun”. The name was fitted to the acronym after the fact: the company grew out of an earlier firm called “Merchandising Organizing System”.
  • Teriyaki Burger: MOS says it launched its teriyaki burger in 1973. MOS also calls it the first teriyaki burger, but I found no independent source to confirm that, so treat it as the chain’s own claim.
  • Rice burger: launched in 1987. The bun is replaced with two grilled rice patties.
  • Abroad: expansion began in Taiwan in 1989. MOS now operates in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, and it closed its Australian restaurants in August 2024.
  • Size in Japan: 1,308 restaurants at the end of June 2026, down from a peak of 1,321 at the end of March 2025. In its first quarter to June 2026, MOS opened 4 restaurants and closed 8. Sales rose 3.6% to ¥24.636 billion and operating profit fell 52.9% to ¥811 million (Ryutsuu News, August 13, 2026).

Burgers came to Japan from America and changed along the way. My history of the hamburger traces where the original came from.

MOS Burger vs McDonald’s in Japan: what’s different

MOS Burger cooks your food after you order, and its menu carries Japanese flavors that McDonald’s doesn’t. Fans say that’s worth the short wait. MOS also buys its raw vegetables from partner farms in Japan and logs every pesticide type and fertilizer amount they use, according to its listings on Ekiten and Tabelog.

MOS Burger at a glance
Cooking Made after you order, not held in a warming chute
Vegetables Raw vegetables from partner farms in Japan, with pesticide and fertilizer use logged
Japanese specialties Teriyaki Burger (MOS dates it to 1973), rice burger (since 1987)
Meat-free Soy Patty swap since 2015, plant-based Green Burger
Signature burger price ¥500 for the MOS Burger (from July 15, 2026)

My take: nobody goes to MOS for a bargain. You go for a burger built to order with a Japanese accent: the meat sauce, the teriyaki glaze, a bun made of rice. The McDonald’s next door has none of them.

Best MOS Burger in Osaka: Nishi-Shinsaibashi review

MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi is the MOS to pick for a first visit to Osaka. It has the deepest pool of reviews of any branch in this guide, and it sits in Minami, the shopping district where most visitors spend their days. Amerikamura, Osaka’s “American Village”, is close by, and the Midosuji subway line links the area to Umeda, Namba and Tennoji.

MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi address, phone and opening hours

MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi is at 1-9-28 Nishishinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka 542-0086 and is open every day from 7am to 10pm.

  • Japanese name: モスバーガー 西心斎橋店 (useful for searching Google Maps)
  • Address: 1-9-28 Nishishinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka 542-0086
  • Phone: +81 6-6251-8828
  • Hours: every day, 7am–10pm
  • Official page: mos.jp store page

The address, phone number and hours come from Wanderlog (source, checked October 9, 2026). I couldn’t load the official mos.jp page for this branch, so confirm the details there or on Google Maps before you go. I also couldn’t confirm the nearest station or the walking time, so I don’t list them.

MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi reviews

Reviewers rate MOS Burger Nishi-Shinsaibashi 4.0/5 on Google (591 reviews) and 4.0/5 on TripAdvisor (41 reviews), according to Wanderlog. They keep coming back to the same points:

  • Very fresh ingredients
  • Seats with charging outlets, handy on a long day of walking around Shinsaibashi
  • Attentive staff
  • An English menu
  • The matcha shake and the lemon-vanilla shake

Reviewers put a typical visit at about 25 minutes, which is slower than grab-and-go fast food. That’s the trade for a burger cooked to order.

Verdict: for a fresh, cooked-to-order stop in central Osaka, especially before the shops open, this is the MOS I’d pick.

Tabelog and Google ratings don’t use the same scale. Tabelog is strict: around 3.0 there means average, so a 3.06 on Tabelog is not worse than a 4.0 on Google.

MOS Burger near Universal Studios Japan

Yes, there is a MOS Burger right by Universal Studios Japan. It is on the first floor of Universal CityWalk Osaka, 171 m from Universal City Station, and opens every day from 7:30am to 10pm. It takes credit cards, and the average spend on Tabelog is under ¥999. The branch closed for renovation from January 29 to March 9, 2025, and was due to reopen on March 10, 2025. Its post-renovation hours come only from Tabelog, so check them on mos.jp before a park day.

MOS Burger in Tennoji: Kintetsu Abenobashi

MOS Burger Kintetsu Abenobashi opens earliest of the Osaka branches I checked, at 6:45am, and closes at 10:45pm every day. You’ll find it inside the station’s east exit. It has 67 seats and a separate smoking area, and it accepts JCB, AMEX and Diners cards but not e-money. Tabelog reviewers single out the teriyaki chicken burger, the fish burger sets and the seasonal sweet potato shake. A second branch nearby is on the 3rd floor of Abeno Q’s Mall (1-6-1 Abenosuji, 06-6633-6155).

Fries L and soft drink L did not change price. A secondary, unofficial source (pricey.jp) gives these current prices: hamburger ¥240, Fish Burger ¥400, onion fries ¥330, Waiwai Burger Set ¥560. It also says adding a regular set (fries M and drink M) costs ¥450. Treat these as indicative. I couldn’t confirm current official prices for the MOS Cheese Burger, Spicy MOS, rice burgers, Tobikiri, Double Teriyaki, Soy Patty, Green Burger or shakes, so I’ve left them out.

What to order at MOS Burger

On a first visit, order the MOS Burger (¥500), the Teriyaki Burger (¥490) and a rice burger. Between them, they cover everything MOS does differently.

  • MOS Burger: the signature, topped with a chili-style meat sauce. Add the ¥100 chili dip if you like heat.
  • Teriyaki Burger: the burger MOS dates to 1973. To cook one at home, try my colleague Clara’s copycat recipe for the MOS Tobikiri teriyaki burger, the egg-and-cheese version.
  • Rice burger: grilled rice patties instead of a bun, on the menu since 1987.
  • MOS Chicken (¥340): the fried chicken on the side.
  • Shakes: reviewers in Osaka recommend the matcha and lemon-vanilla shakes, and the seasonal sweet potato one.

Limited-time MOS Burger menu items

As of October 9, 2026, the official MOS menu page lists three seasonal items: Tsukimi Focaccia with golden cheese sauce (¥630), the Menchi-katsu Cheese Burger with demi-glace sauce (¥510) and the Mazeru Mitsu-imo sweet potato shake (S ¥410 / M ¥470). They rotate, so check mos.jp/menu to see what’s on when you visit.

MOS Burger vegetarian and vegan options

MOS Burger is one of the easier fast-food chains in Japan for meat-free eaters. Since 2015 you’ve been able to swap the beef patty for a Soy Patty, and the Green Burger contains no animal ingredients at all (Business Insider Japan, MOS press release). The Green Burger launched in 2021 at ¥538, with a teriyaki version at ¥580. Those prices are out of date, and I couldn’t confirm the current ones. A word of caution: a Soy Patty swap doesn’t make a burger vegan, because the sauces and bun may still contain animal products. Only the Green Burger is fully plant-based.

MOS Burger opening hours in Osaka: breakfast and late night

Four of the five branches in my table open by 7:30am, which makes MOS an easy breakfast in Osaka. Kintetsu Abenobashi is first, at 6:45am. Nishi-Shinsaibashi and Utsubo-Honmachi follow at 7am, Universal CityWalk at 7:30am. For a late bite, Showa-cho stays open until midnight and Utsubo-Honmachi until 11pm. One Tabelog review of Utsubo-Honmachi mentions a Morning Dog Drink Set at ¥440, but that price predates July 2026.
