Best Burgers in Milan: 10 Restaurants for 2026

The best burger in Milan for a sit-down gourmet meal is still at Al Mercato Burger Bar, Via Sant’Eufemia 16, which chefs Eugenio Roncoroni and Beniamino Nespor opened in 2010. For a smash burger, go to Dumbo (Mercato Comunale Isola or Via Achille Maiocchi 12), Meat Crew or Chuck’s. They are the best-placed addresses inside the city in Scatti di Gusto’s June 2026 tasting. Expect about €10 to €16 for the burger, and €25 to €40 per person once fries and a drink are added. Below are my 10 picks, checked against sources on 20 October 2026, plus the addresses older lists still give that have since closed.

How I ranked Milan’s burger restaurants

This ranking comes from published sources, not from a single tasting. I worked from the most recent Italian food press, the restaurants’ own pages and closure reports. The backbone is Scatti di Gusto’s smash burger tasting by Emanuele Bonati (29 June 2026). Its older top 20 of Milan hamburgers (updated 2022) is used only for history. I also used Dissapore, Puntarella Rossa, MilanoToday, Il Giorno and Milano Segreta. Every price carries the date of its source. When I could not find a 2026 source showing a place is open, the entry says so. You will find no star ratings and no Google scores here: a score I haven’t earned at the table would mislead you.

The gourmet institutions come first, because Milan’s burger scene grew out of them. Then come the smash burger bars the press ranked highest in 2026. The list ends with the kosher and vegan options that most English-language guides skip.

The 10 best burger restaurants in Milan

Each entry gives the address, the burger to order and the source behind every price.

1. Al Mercato Burger Bar, Sant’Eufemia

Al Mercato is the restaurant that put gourmet burgers on Milan’s map. Chefs Eugenio Roncoroni and Beniamino Nespor opened it in 2010. Nespor died in November 2016, aged 34 (Il Fatto Quotidiano). Marcello Rizza has owned the group since 2022.

• Address: Via Sant’Eufemia 16, Milan (Sant’Eufemia / Missori)
• Why it stands out: it was cooking chef-level burgers in 2010, years before the smash bars arrived.
• Good to know: the group closed its Porta Nuova branch in summer 2025. On 26 November 2025 it also closed Al Mercato Steaks&Burgers in Porta Venezia, to focus on Via Sant’Eufemia (Scatti di Gusto). Only Via Sant’Eufemia is still open.
• Prices: older lists give €11–15. Those figures predate 2026, so check the current menu.

My take: shrinking back to one address is good news for the burger. One kitchen, the original one, is easier to keep consistent than three.

2. Dumbo, Isola and Porta Venezia

Dumbo, a smash burger chain from Paris, came second in Scatti di Gusto’s June 2026 tasting, the best result for any address inside Milan. Charles Ganem and Samuel Nataf founded it in Paris in 2019, and Milan is its third European city after Paris and London. It started with a pop-up at Mercato Isola, and the second Milan branch opened in Porta Venezia on 8 October 2026 (MilanoToday).

3. Meat Crew, Porta Venezia, Zara and Bocconi

Meat Crew is the smash burger chain of YouTuber Mocho (Massimo Novati), ranked third in Milan by Scatti di Gusto in June 2026, with three branches across the city. It is also the priciest smash burger on this list, €3.50 to €4.50 more than Chuck’s for the same style of burger.

• Prices: burgers €14.50–15.50, meal deals €21.90–22.40 (Scatti di Gusto, 29 June 2026). Dissapore puts a full meal at about €25.

4. Chuck’s, Porta Vittoria

Chuck’s serves the most New York-style smash burger in Milan, and you can’t change a thing on it. Chuck George, a Filipino-American entrepreneur from New York, opened it in 2022 inside the Sidewalk Kitchens food hall.

• Signature burger: a smash patty on a Martin’s potato roll with cheddar, pickles, white onion and the house sauce. ‘No modifications’ means no swaps.

If I had room for one smash burger in Milan, I would start here. It is the cheapest of the city’s top three, and a kitchen that refuses substitutions is telling you it trusts its recipe.

5. Ham Holy Burger, Brera and De Angeli

Ham Holy Burger is the place for a burger made with Italian beef in Milan: Piedmontese Fassona patties and bread baked every day. Scatti di Gusto ranked it third in Milan in 2022.

• Addresses: Via Palermo 15 (Brera / Moscova); Via Marghera 34 (De Angeli)
• Good to know: you order on an iPad at the table.
• Price: from €9 (ESN Milano Bocconi), not reconfirmed for 2026.
• Check before you go: I found no 2026 source confirming both branches are open. Check the official Instagram or Google listing.

6. Joe’s American Smashburger, Mercato Centrale

Joe’s American Smashburger is Joe Bastianich’s smash burger counter in the food hall of Milano Centrale station. It opened in August 2026 on the ground floor of Mercato Centrale Milano (Scatti di Gusto).

• Location: ground floor of Mercato Centrale Milano, at Milano Centrale station
• Signature burger: a 100% Black Angus smash burger with black truffle
• Good to know: it’s the easiest stop on this list if you are catching a train. I could not confirm current prices from an official source.

7. Fonzo’s NY, Garibaldi

Fonzo’s NY is a New York-style smash burger bar between Garibaldi and Brera, founded by Giacomo Cavalli, a model, Olympic sailor and artist.

8. Street Smash Burgers, Porta Venezia

Street Smash Burgers is a smash burger chain founded in Lisbon in 2024. It now runs several outlets in Milan, including one in Porta Venezia.

9. Denzel, near Piazza Piemonte

Denzel is Milan’s kosher burger restaurant. You choose a beef, lamb or mixed patty in 150 g, 180 g or 230 g.

• Good to know: closed on Saturdays for Shabbat.
• Check before you go: I found no 2026 source confirming it is open (zero.eu).

10. Flower Burger, Italy’s first vegan burger chain

Flower Burger is the best-known vegan burger in Milan. Matteo Toto founded it in the city in 2015 as Italy’s first vegan burger fast-food chain, and its buns are coloured with turmeric, plant charcoal or cherry extract.

Best smash burger in Milan

The best smash burgers in Milan are at Dumbo, Meat Crew and Chuck’s, the top three addresses inside the city in Scatti di Gusto’s June 2026 tasting of 15 smash burgers. First place went to JB Burger, just outside the city limits (see below). Inside Milan, a smash burger costs €10 to €15.50.

Worth the trip: JB Burger in Rozzano

JB Burger is the best smash burger in the Milan metro area, according to Scatti di Gusto, which ranked it first in 2026. It is missing from my top 10 only because it is in Rozzano, outside the city of Milan. Joe Bastianich opened it on 7 April 2026 with Bun Burgers and Gioia Group, in the Fiordaliso shopping centre at Via Eugenio Curiel 25. The patties are 90–100 g and smashed, and the New York Cheeseburger costs €7.90–13.90 (Scatti di Gusto). Branches have been announced in Brera, Turin and Rome.

Where to eat burgers in Milan by neighbourhood

Porta Venezia is where I would base a burger crawl: Dumbo, Meat Crew and Street Smash Burgers are a short walk apart. Isola and Brera come next.

Closed burger restaurants in Milan to skip

Several burger places that older Milan guides still list are closed or no longer operating normally.

• Quintalino, Via Terraggio 9: opened on 22 November 2023 by Alessandro Cattelan, Francesco Panella and Vittorio De Rosa, and has since closed (Dissapore).
• Trussardi, Piazza della Scala: the restaurant whose burger appeared in 2022 rankings closed for good around September 2023 (Scatti di Gusto).
• Al Mercato Porta Venezia and Porta Nuova: closed in 2025. Only Via Sant’Eufemia remains.
• Burgez: the Milan chain Simone Ciaruffoli founded in 2015 had about 20 outlets. It went into liquidation in 2025 and was taken over by the Obicà group (Il Giorno). I could not confirm which outlets are still open.

How much does a burger cost in Milan?

A burger in a Milan burger restaurant costs about €10 to €16 in 2026, and a full meal with a drink €25 to €40 per person. Smash burgers run from €10–12 at Chuck’s to €14.50–15.50 at Meat Crew (Scatti di Gusto, June 2026). The meal range comes from Milano Segreta, and Dissapore puts a meal at Meat Crew at about €25.
