Best Burger in Rotterdam: 10 Spots Ranked (2026)
Rotterdam's top 10 burgers: Ter Marsch & Co, Hamburg, Burger Club and more. Award winners, smash burgers, halal and vegan picks, addresses and hours.

The best burger in Rotterdam is at Ter Marsch & Co on Witte de Withstraat. This former family butcher’s shop won Best Hamburger Netherlands in 2015 and Best Burger Benelux in 2020 and 2021. No other burger restaurant in the city has that record. Hamburg, a few doors down, comes second. Burger Club on Nieuwe Binnenweg, Best Burger of Rotterdam in 2016 and 2017, is third. Fourth is Diego’s in Kop van Zuid, run by chef Diego Buik, the 2015 Best Burger of Rotterdam. Buik also founded Smash, the spot that leads the city’s smash burger wave.
This is a 2026 ranking of the best burgers in Rotterdam, Netherlands, built on four kinds of evidence: verified awards, the local food press (Rotterdam Style, Uitagenda Rotterdam), dated review data, and proof that each venue was still trading in 2026. I checked every address and opening hour against its source on 1 November 2026. Where I could not confirm a price, a website or a detail, the entry says so. Nothing is guessed.

The 10 best burger restaurants in Rotterdam, ranked
Awards and press coverage put the first four clearly ahead. Places 5 to 10 are the newer smash burger spots and cheaper favourites. In my view, they say more about how Rotterdam eats burgers in 2026 than the trophies do.
1. Ter Marsch & Co: the most awarded burger in the Netherlands
Ter Marsch & Co is the most decorated burger restaurant in Rotterdam: Best Hamburger Netherlands in 2015, Tastiest Hamburger and Best Burger Benelux in 2020, and Best Burger Benelux again in 2021. The building was the butcher’s shop of the Ter Marsch family, who ran a meat canning business. In 2014 they turned it into their first burger restaurant.
The 2015 winner, the Burgeresse, is still on the menu according to the press: Scottish Angus blended with Japanese wagyu, on a brioche bun. The competition burgers were wilder. Chef Rohini Atwaroe’s Gojira (2020) topped a dry-aged rib-eye and wagyu patty with pulled pork, yuzu, manuka honey, gochujang and nori chips, and came in a steamer basket. The Holy Moly (2021), by chefs Andy Hoogvliets and Mitch Kramer, paired wagyu with tomatillo, chorizo cream and guajillo pork belly carnitas. My advice: the trophy burgers were one-off competition entries, so order the Burgeresse, the only award winner the press still places on the menu. To bake that kind of bun at home, follow our homemade brioche burger bun recipe.
- Address: Witte de Withstraat 70, 3012 BS Rotterdam (Centrum)
- Getting there: Eendrachtsplein metro station is nearby
- Budget: about €25 per person including a drink (Rotterdam Style, October 2024)
- Bookings: walk-in only
- Don’t miss: the house-made sauces for the fries
- Reviews: 4.8/5 from 4,394 reviews (aggregated by Restaurant Guru, November 2026)

2. Hamburg: proper burgers in a butcher’s-shop setting
Hamburg is the Witte de Withstraat classic for a big, straightforward beef burger. Owner Cornel Wink opened it on 11 March 2013 and styled it as an old-fashioned butcher’s shop, with white tiles and meat cleavers. The namesake De Hamburg weighs 270 g: Black Angus beef, red onion, pickle, cheddar, Gruyère, pancetta and house sauce, in a bun from Jordy’s Bakery. Two cheeses and pancetta on one patty is not subtle. That is the point.
A second branch sits south of the Maas, in Katendrecht. If you don’t eat meat, there is a tofu burger and a pumpkin burger.

3. Burger Club: two-time Best Burger of Rotterdam
Burger Club on Nieuwe Binnenweg is the place in Rotterdam to choose your own patty. Open since 2014, it was voted Best Burger of Rotterdam twice: in 2016 with the BC Double Decker (pancetta, aged cheese, chorizo, caramelised onion), and in 2017 with the Burger Club Special (Iberian ham, brie, grilled artichokes, truffle mayonnaise). In 2016 it was also ranked the second-best burger restaurant in the Netherlands.
Any burger can be made with MRIJ beef (from the Dutch Meuse-Rhine-IJssel breed), Iberian pork, wagyu, Beyond Meat or a seaweed-based alternative. That flexibility is why I would send a mixed group of meat eaters and vegans here first. Away from the award winners, the Dirty Burger comes with a fried egg, and the Kimchi Burger with house-made kimchi and gochujang sauce.

4. Diego’s: a former Best Burger of Rotterdam winner turned street food
Diego’s is where Diego Buik, Best Burger of Rotterdam in 2015, cooks today. Two years after that title he created a €2,050 burger with gold leaf, caviar and lobster, presented as one of the most expensive burgers in the world. He opened Diego’s beneath the Nieuwe Luxor Theater in February 2019.
On 20 March 2023, Diego’s turned into a gourmet street food restaurant. Four signature burgers survived the change and are now served as half portions for sharing. It is a good format for tasting several burgers in one evening, and a poor one if you want a big burger to yourself. Restaurant Guru shows 4.8/5 from 1,626 reviews (November 2026), and a Pathé press release of 28 October 2026 describes the restaurant as running since 2019.
- Address: Posthumalaan, 3072 AG Rotterdam (Kop van Zuid, near Wilhelminaplein, under the Nieuwe Luxor Theater). Sources disagree on the house number, so check Google Maps before you go.
- Website: no official website found; the diegos.nl domain is for sale

5. Smash: halal smash burgers on Schouwburgplein
Smash is Diego Buik’s smash burger restaurant and the easiest place to find a halal burger in central Rotterdam. Buik founded it with a partner, Ronald, at the foot of the Pathé Schouwburgplein cinema. There are three burgers, each made with halal meat or with plant-based Beyond Meat. The room looks like an American diner from the 1980s and 1990s, arcade machines included.
It is growing. On 28 October 2026, Pathé announced a second Smash at Pathé De Kuip. That will be the first Pathé cinema where you can eat a freshly made smash burger in your seat during the film.
- Address: Schouwburgplein 101, 3012 CL Rotterdam (Centrum)
- Hours at opening (November 2024): Wednesday to Sunday 12:00–22:00. Check current hours before you go.

6. Drippy’s: grass-fed smash burgers with a celebrity line-up
Drippy’s has the best-known founders of Rotterdam’s smash burger wave: TV presenter Kaj Gorgels, Ad Schaap, CEO of the De Beren restaurant chain, and food influencer Colin Knopper. The burgers are smashed grass-fed beef on buns baked every day, and the fries are cut on site.
The first Drippy’s opened on Stadhuisplein in late 2024. The second followed on Oude Binnenweg on 11 April 2025, in a listed building with stained-glass windows across two floors. Once a month it hosts a Breakfast Club with croissants, smash burgers and unlimited coffee. For smash burgers beyond the Netherlands, see Junk’s smash burgers in Paris and Beefy Boys at Oxford’s Westgate.
- Stadhuisplein: Stadhuisplein 17, 3012 AR Rotterdam (Centrum)
- Oude Binnenweg: second branch, opened 11 April 2025
- Online: no official website responded when I checked; the local press gives its Instagram as @drippysburgers
7. Le Smash: a short menu on Witte de Withstraat and at the Markthal
Le Smash, a Dutch smash burger chain, has one of the shortest menus in Rotterdam: Le Classic and Le Special, each also made in a vegetarian version. Two burgers leave a kitchen nowhere to hide, and I count that in its favour. The chain also runs restaurants in Amsterdam, Maastricht, Breda and Utrecht.
- Witte de Withstraat: Witte de Withstraat 43A, 3012 BM Rotterdam
- Markthal counter: Dominee Jan Scharpstraat 298, 3011 GZ Rotterdam

8. Burgertrut: organic and vegan burgers that fund the arts
Burgertrut is my budget pick for a vegan burger in Rotterdam, a few minutes from Rotterdam Centraal. The Roodkapje cultural foundation runs it, and the profits pay for the foundation’s arts programme. The menu has organic beef burgers, vegetarian and vegan burgers, and a vegetarian or vegan kapsalon, Rotterdam’s own loaded-fries dish.
- Address: Delftseplein 39, Rotterdam (Centrum, near Rotterdam Centraal)
- Budget: about €10–20 per person
- More information: Roodkapje

9. The GOAT: smash burgers under disco balls
The GOAT is the most playful burger spot in Rotterdam. It serves smash burgers, chicken tenders, loaded fries, house-made lemonade and milkshakes. Its second branch, on Tiendplein, adds five disco balls and arcade games. It ranks ninth because the press has praised the room, but no award or review has yet judged the burger itself.
- Schiedamse Vest: Schiedamse Vest 14, 3011 BA Rotterdam
- Tiendplein: Tiendplein 1, Rotterdam. Hours at opening were Wednesday to Sunday 14:00–22:00 (Uitagenda Rotterdam); check current hours before you go.
10. Stooges’ Diner: an American diner in a former station
Stooges’ Diner brings the American diner to Rotterdam-Noord, inside the former Station Bergweg railway station. Smash burgers, stuffed burgers and pastrami share the menu with sweet potato waffle fries and honey butter. It is the only Rotterdam-Noord address in this top 10, so it is the one to choose if you are staying in Noord.
- Address: Bergweg 333, 3037 EP Rotterdam (Rotterdam-Noord)
- Budget: about €10–20 per person

Smash burgers in Rotterdam: where to find the 2024–2026 wave
For a smash burger in Rotterdam, go to Smash on Schouwburgplein, Drippy’s on Stadhuisplein or Oude Binnenweg, Le Smash on Witte de Withstraat or at the Markthal, or The GOAT. Stooges’ Diner in Rotterdam-Noord serves them too. Smash and Drippy’s both opened in late 2024, the same year The GOAT added its Tiendplein branch. The newest is still to come: Smash’s cinema outlet at Pathé De Kuip, announced in October 2026.
Halal burger in Rotterdam
Smash is the clearest halal choice in Rotterdam: every burger on its menu comes with halal meat or as a Beyond Meat version. Hkiki Burger, at Van Oldenbarneveltplaats 1, 3012 AH Rotterdam, is also listed as halal and just missed my top 10. Aggregators rate it 4.9/5, and a meal costs about €10–20 per person.
Vegan and vegetarian burgers in Rotterdam
Burgertrut has the widest vegan choice, including a vegan kapsalon. At Burger Club, any burger can be made with Beyond Meat or a seaweed-based patty. Hamburg keeps a tofu burger and a pumpkin burger on the menu. Smash makes all three of its burgers with Beyond Meat on request, and Le Smash has a vegetarian version of both its burgers.
Which Rotterdam neighbourhood is best for burgers?
Witte de Withstraat is the best street in Rotterdam for burgers: Ter Marsch & Co, Hamburg and Le Smash are a short walk apart. If you have only one evening, start there. Nieuwe Binnenweg (Burger Club) and Oude Binnenweg (Drippy’s) are next door. South of the Maas, Kop van Zuid has Diego’s. Katendrecht, a former harbour district across the Rijnhaven, has Hamburg’s second branch. Our Rotterdam burger hub covers each area.

How much does a burger cost in Rotterdam?
Expect to pay about €10–25 per person for a burger meal in Rotterdam. Burgertrut, Stooges’ Diner and Hkiki Burger cost about €10–20 per person. Ter Marsch & Co, the award winner, comes to about €25 per person with a drink (Rotterdam Style, October 2024). I could not confirm 2026 menu prices for the signature burgers, so this guide does not quote any.
How much a burger costs in Rotterdam: about €10–20 per person at Burgertrut, Stooges’ Diner and Hkiki Burger, about €25 with a drink at Ter Marsch & Co (Rotterdam Style, 2024) (Chart: Burger Breton, data from Rotterdam Style (October 2024) and Restaurant Guru (November 2026), CC BY 4.0)
Also worth knowing: Baek Food & Drinks
Baek Food & Drinks, at Blaak 329, 3011 GB Rotterdam, won Best Burger of Rotterdam in 2018 with its Baek Burger (Closter cheese and bacon). It was founded by two friends, Joost and Peter, and has a large sunny terrace. It is not in the top 10 because one listing shows it open only on Fridays and Saturdays, and I could not confirm its 2026 hours.
How I ranked Rotterdam’s burger restaurants
The ranking weighs four things, in this order: verified awards, coverage in the Rotterdam food press, review scores with their volume and date, and evidence that the restaurant was open in 2026. Awards come from the organisers’ coverage on FavorFlav and from the restaurants’ own websites. Press facts come from Uitagenda Rotterdam, Rotterdam Style and Rotterdam Centrum. Review figures come from Restaurant Guru, November 2026. Burger Breton accepts no payment for a place in any guide.
