House of Burgers is a home-grown Algerian burger chain with four branches in Algiers: Bab Ezzouar, Kouba, Ouled Fayet and Ben Aknoun. Three founders opened the first restaurant in Boumerdès in July 2016, after travelling through more than 10 US states to develop the concept. The menu names its burgers after American places such as Montana, El Paso and New York, and the brand says its meat is halal, butchered in-house and served in buns from its own baker.

Who founded House of Burgers?

House of Burgers was founded by three partners who toured more than 10 US states before opening their first restaurant in Boumerdès in July 2016.

Their names appear in no public source I could find, so I won’t put a name to them until the brand does. The method is on record, though. The founders went looking for the American burger at the source, state by state, then brought the idea home to Boumerdès, a coastal city east of Algiers.

You can still read that trip on the menu. Almost every burger is named after an American state or city.

From Boumerdès to Algiers: how the chain grew

House of Burgers grew from one Boumerdès restaurant in 2016 to a multi-city chain with four branches in Algiers.

  • July 2016: the first House of Burgers opens in Boumerdès.
  • September 2018: a branch is already running in Bab Ezzouar, in eastern Algiers. That month the brand holds a “gastronomic week” there and in Boumerdès (9–16 September in Boumerdès), led by a chef named Raouf, with pineapple burgers and smoked-turkey burgers. The stated aim was to raise awareness of burger culture among Algerians (DIA-Algérie).
  • 6–9 January 2025: House of Burgers exhibits at HORECA Expo Algérie at SAFEX, the Palais des Expositions in Algiers, and runs a temporary restaurant in the Central Pavilion (AfriqueFranchise, HORECA Expo).
  • 2025: AfriqueFranchise counts 7 restaurants in 5 wilayas, with expansion planned to Sétif, Béjaïa and Constantine.
  • October 2026: the brand site lists branches in Algiers (four), Boumerdès, Tizi Ouzou, Blida, Oran, Béjaïa and Sidi Bel Abbès.

The two counts don’t match, and I’m not merging them. The 2025 trade press says 7 restaurants in 5 wilayas. The brand’s current list is longer and now adds Béjaïa and Sidi Bel Abbès.

This list comes from the brand’s site. I haven’t confirmed street addresses, opening hours or current status with a second source, so check Google Maps or the Yassir delivery app before you go.

What makes House of Burgers burgers different

House of Burgers says it controls every part of the burger in-house: beef from traditional livestock prepared by its own butcher, buns from its own baker and sauces made daily.

Those are the brand’s claims, published on its own site, and I haven’t verified them independently. Still, they’re worth noting. Most burger listings for Algiers say nothing about where the meat or bread comes from. House of Burgers builds its whole pitch on it.

What the site leaves out is just as telling: no patty weights, no cooking method, no sauce details. The one clue is the 10 Oz, whose name points to a 10-ounce (about 285 g) patty.

The menu: burgers named after America

The House of Burgers menu reads like the founders’ road-trip itinerary: Montana, El Paso, Alabama, New York, Dallas and Miami.

Alongside them sit the Jackpot, the 10 Oz and the Burger Classique. The brand names no single signature burger, so I won’t crown one for it. For the most House of Burgers order, pick one of the American place names.

Is House of Burgers halal?

Yes. House of Burgers states on its site that its meat is halal.

Halal is the norm for meat in Algeria, so visitors looking for a halal burger in Algiers rarely need to filter restaurants on that point.

House of Burgers is one of several established burger names in Algiers, and its documented founding story sets it apart from venues known only through directory listings.

POIdata, a commercial data source, counts 414 hamburger restaurants across Algeria. In Algiers, other well-known names include:

  • Pepper (Sarl Pepper): a long-established burger brand with several branches, including Hydra at 22 boulevard Mohamed Saïd Hamdine and El Biar. Its Classic burger has a beef patty, gouda and house sauce.
  • City Burger: 40 rue Didouche Mourad, in the city center.
  • Ô’burger: boulevard Sidi Yahia / Saïd Hamdine, Hydra.

Few of them have a dated, sourced story online. Search for the best burger in Algiers and you mostly get directories: an address, a thin rating, little else. With House of Burgers, the opening date, the founders’ trip, the 2018 events and the 2025 trade fair are all on record.

Can you open a House of Burgers franchise?

Yes. House of Burgers is offered as a franchise in Algeria, according to AlgérieFranchise and AfriqueFranchise.

The brand used HORECA Expo Algérie 2025 to pitch itself to the trade, and AfriqueFranchise reported planned expansion to Sétif, Béjaïa and Constantine. Béjaïa has since appeared on the brand’s branch list. Franchise terms and fees are not published, so contact the brand through its site or Facebook page.

My take on House of Burgers

House of Burgers stands out less for any single burger than for how openly it tells its own story.

A local brand that names its founding date, explains where its meat and bread come from and shows up at the country’s main hospitality fair is doing more than most of its Algiers rivals. That earns it a place on any shortlist. But a pitch is not a plate. Until the in-house butcher and baker claims are checked at the counter, and the menu has published prices, I’d call it the best-documented burger chain in Algiers, not yet the best burger.

What I could not verify

Some details are still open, and I’d rather say so than guess.

  • Founders’ names: not published by the brand or any source I found.
  • Chef Raouf: named in one 2018 article, with no surname. His current role is unknown.
  • Prices: I found no current official menu in Algerian dinars (DZD), so I am not quoting prices.
  • Branch addresses and hours: listed by the brand but not confirmed by a second source.
