Who runs Baresca on Byard Lane, what it serves, what a menú del día costs, and where to go in Nottingham if you came for a burger.

Baresca Nottingham is a Barcelona-style tapas bar at 9 Byard Lane in the Lace Market, run by Jon and David (Dave) Perkins, the founders of the Perkins Family Group. Don’t come for a burger: there isn’t one on its official menu page. The weekday menú del día costs £18.50, and the doors open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:45. I checked every one of these details against the official site and CAMRA on 23 October 2026.
Who owns Baresca Nottingham?
Baresca Nottingham belongs to Jon and David Perkins. The official Baresca Family site names them as its founders, “Jon & Dave”. Local press has named their company as Good Table & Cheers Ltd (Notts TV). Today the business trades as the Perkins Family Group, with Jon Perkins as Managing Director (West Midlands News). None of the sources I could check names a current head chef, so I don’t name one.
The Barcelona rainstorm behind the concept
According to the official Baresca Family site, it started with bad weather. In the early 2000s the founders ducked out of a rainstorm into a tapas bar near Barcelona’s Boqueria market, and that afternoon shaped everything they opened afterwards.
From Escabeche to three venues: the Perkins Family Group timeline
The group grew from one West Bridgford restaurant in 2010 to three venues by 2026. These are the milestones I could date and source.
| Year | Milestone | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Early 2000s | The founders shelter from a rainstorm in a tapas bar near La Boqueria, Barcelona | Baresca Family |
| 2010 | Escabeche, the group’s first restaurant, opens in West Bridgford | West Midlands News |
| 2015 or 2016 | Baresca opens on Byard Lane, on the site of the former Dogma nightclub | Visit Nottinghamshire (June 2015) / West Midlands News (2016) |
| 22 July 2026 | Baresca Mere Green opens in Sutton Coldfield, the group’s first West Midlands site | West Midlands News |
Nobody agrees on when Baresca Nottingham opened. A Visit Nottinghamshire article from January 2016 says June 2015. West Midlands News, writing in 2026, says 2016, and has the restaurant celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The earlier article was written closer to the event, so I lean towards 2015, but I’m giving both dates until the restaurant confirms one.
Baresca Mere Green, the third venue
Baresca Mere Green opened on Wednesday 22 July 2026 on Mere Green Road, Sutton Coldfield. It took over the former Pierre Bistro unit: 4,700 sq ft, 150 covers inside and 40 on the terrace (West Midlands News).
Baresca Byard Lane: address, building and how to get there
Baresca is at 9 Byard Lane, Nottingham NG1 2GJ, in the Lace Market. The Lace Market tram stop is about 150 m away and Nottingham station about 500 m (CAMRA WhatPub).

The building is Grade II listed (list entry 1246298). It dates from about 1880 and sits inside the Lace Market Conservation Area. Before the tapas, it was the Dogma nightclub.
Three floors: deli, bar and eatery
In 2016, Visit Nottinghamshire described Baresca as a three-floor venue: deli, bar and eatery, open from breakfast to evening, with a basement bar called Cellar 9 for live music at weekends. That was ten years ago. I found no current source confirming that the floors, the Cellar 9 name or the music nights are still the same.
Baresca menú del día and what’s on the menu
Baresca’s menú del día costs £18.50. It is served until 18:30 on weekdays and until 17:00 at weekends, according to the official Baresca page, checked on 23 October 2026.
The price has climbed. The same lunch deal was £9.95 in January 2016 (a flatbread with dips, two tapas and a side), and the board outside said £10.95 in February 2019. That is an 86% rise in ten years. Most of it came after 2019, so this is no longer the bargain lunch the 2016 write-ups describe.
Baresca menú del día price in Nottingham: £9.95 in January 2016 (Visit Nottinghamshire), £10.95 on the board outside in February 2019 (cover photo), £18.50 in October 2026 (official site). The dishes the sources name are classic tapas: patatas bravas, cocas flatbreads, Baresca meatballs, mackerel escabeche, empanadillas, and polenta chips with red mojo.
Two practical points from CAMRA. Alcohol is served only with food, except at bar seating and in the downstairs bar at weekends. And Uber Eats showed Baresca as closed for delivery in August 2025, so don’t plan on ordering in.
Opening hours and booking
Baresca opens Tuesday to Sunday from 11:45 and is closed on Mondays. To book, call 0115 948 3900 or email nottingham@barescatapas.co.uk. CAMRA still listed the venue as open on 23 October 2026.

Does Baresca serve burgers? Where to eat a burger near the Lace Market
No. Baresca doesn’t serve burgers: there are none on its official page or on any menu I reviewed. If you came to the Lace Market for a burger, walk the few minutes to Broadway instead. That’s where I’d send anyone who asked me.
Annie’s Burger Shack, 5 Broadway
Annie’s Burger Shack, at 5 Broadway in the Lace Market, has served Rhode Island-style burgers since 2009, according to Harden’s. Its founder, Anmarie Spaziano, grew up in Rhode Island. The signature “Lemmy”, with Jack Daniel’s-infused mustard, is named after Motörhead’s frontman, who ate there in the early days. A Derby offshoot closed at the end of 2023. Harden’s is my only source for all of this, so check current hours and prices before you go.

Beefy Boys, announced for Queen’s Street
The Beefy Boys, the Hereford smash-burger group I covered in our Beefy Boys Oxford profile, announced their sixth restaurant for Queen’s Street, Nottingham, in April 2026 (Food4Media press release). I haven’t yet confirmed whether it has opened.
For the full picture, see our Nottingham burger guide. If you’re travelling around the East Midlands, our Leicester burger guide is the next stop, and every other city is on the restaurants hub.
How I researched this article
I haven’t eaten at Baresca, so this article gives no rating and no tasting notes. Every fact comes from the restaurant’s official pages, CAMRA WhatPub, Visit Nottinghamshire, West Midlands News, Notts TV and Harden’s, all checked on 23 October 2026. Historical details carry their dates. I left out the awards listed on the official site because the site doesn’t say who gave them.
