A&W Montreal: Locations, 24-Hour Spots and Menu

Where to find A&W in Montreal, from the old Forum at Atwater to six 24-hour listings, plus the Quebec menu, sales tax and how A&W Canada differs.

The handiest A&W in downtown Montreal is the one in the old Montreal Forum, at 2313 Sainte-Catherine Street West, on the corner of Atwater Avenue and next to Atwater metro. Directories list 21 A&W addresses on the island of Montreal, and six are listed as open 24 hours, including 3457 Park Avenue near McGill. My short answer: downtown, go to the Forum. After midnight, Park Avenue is the better bet, because its listing is the most recently updated. Call first anyway. I checked every address and fact below on October 19, 2026, against A&W press releases, mall pages and directory listings. Where I couldn’t confirm something, I say so.

A&W in Montreal at a glance

A&W is Canada’s second-largest fast-food burger chain after McDonald’s (Wikipedia, 2022 data). At the end of Q3 2026, it had 1,113 restaurants across Canada (A&W Q3 2026 results). Montreal has long been a stronghold: in 2013, nearly half of its 100 Quebec restaurants were in Greater Montreal.

Bar chart of A&W restaurants in Canada: 774 in March 2013, 1,094 at the end of 2025 and 1,113 at the end of Q3 2026. Sources: A&W press release (2013) and A&W results for fiscal 2025 and Q3 2026. (Chart: Burger Breton, original work, data from A&W Food Services of Canada (newswire.ca 2013 release; fiscal 2025 and Q3 2026 results))

So how many are in Montreal today? Nobody publishes a confirmed number. A&W’s official locator at web.aw.ca only loads in a full browser, and the chain hasn’t released a recent count. The latest dated figures come from A&W itself. In May 2011, it had 87 restaurants in Quebec, 17 of them on the island of Montreal before that month’s downtown opening (A&W, 2011). By March 2013, it had 100 restaurants in Quebec and nearly 50 in Greater Montreal (A&W, 2013).

A&W Montreal downtown: the Forum at Atwater

The A&W at the Forum de Montréal is at 2313 Sainte-Catherine Street West, Montreal, QC H3H 1N2, on the corner of Atwater Avenue (shopping-canada.com; Yelp). The building is the old Montreal Forum, where the Canadiens used to play. No A&W in town has a better backdrop for a Teen Burger.

You don’t need a car: the Forum sits right by Atwater metro station on the Green Line.

A&W Forum hours and phone number

The Forum A&W has no confirmed opening hours or phone number, and the sources contradict each other. A summary on Yelp lists it as open 24 hours. Shopping-canada.com gives evening hours ending at 1 or 2 a.m., which are probably the building’s own hours. Yelp and Yellow Pages list the phone as (514) 664-6097, while shopping-canada.com gives 1-888-613-6786. I trust none of them enough to send you there at 3 a.m. Check the official locator or Google Maps first.

Other downtown A&W locations

If the Forum is out of your way, three other addresses sit on Sainte-Catherine Street. Centre Eaton, at 705 Sainte-Catherine Street West, H3B 4G5, is in the shopping core (shopping-canada.com). Complexe Desjardins, at 150 Sainte-Catherine Street West, H2X 3Y2, serves the Quartier des Spectacles (shopping-canada.com). Each of these two has only one source, so confirm them on web.aw.ca. To the east, 845 Sainte-Catherine Street East, H2L 2E4, is in the Village, with the phone number 514-847-0193 according to Tripadvisor and Yellow Pages. Its hours differ from one source to the next.

A&W Montreal locations: the full directory list

Yellow Pages lists A&W restaurants in most Montreal neighbourhoods, from the Plateau to Saint-Laurent and Ahuntsic. The table below gathers the 21 addresses I found. These are directory data, not the official locator, so make sure a location is still open before you go.

A&W open 24 hours in Montreal

Directories list six Montreal A&W locations as open 24 hours: 3457 Park Avenue, 1651 Mont-Royal Avenue East, 4501 Saint-Denis Street, 2033 de Maisonneuve Boulevard East, 5150 Sherbrooke Street West and 8400 Christophe-Colomb Avenue. The Park Avenue listing, near the McGill campus, was updated on Yelp in July 2026 and gives the phone number (514) 289-8535 (Yelp). A&W confirms none of these hours. Late-night schedules change often, so call before you head out.

A&W’s Montreal firsts: Concordia and Sainte-Catherine East

Montreal is where A&W tested its urban restaurant in Quebec. On May 26, 2011, the chain opened its first urban-concept restaurant in the province at 1550 de Maisonneuve Boulevard West, near Concordia University. The release said its self-order kiosks were a first for Canadian quick service, and the restaurant also had free Wi-Fi, reusable dishes and frosted mugs. Franchisee Jean Boisvert ran it (A&W, 2011).

Two years later, on March 20, 2013, A&W opened its 100th Quebec restaurant at 1200 Sainte-Catherine Street East. It was the chain’s fourth urban-concept location, run by the Malek-Warda family (A&W, 2013). I could not confirm that either restaurant is still open. Yellow Pages lists a 1540 de Maisonneuve West, but I can’t tell whether it is the same restaurant as the 1550.

A&W Montreal menu: what to order

A&W Montreal serves the national A&W Canada menu plus at least one Quebec specialty: an onion ring poutine. Here is what to know before you order.

The Burger Family and the Teen Burger

The Teen Burger belongs to A&W’s Burger Family, which the chain created in 1963 with the Papa, Mama and Baby Burgers. If it’s your first A&W, order the Teen. It is the closest thing the chain has to a house classic, and I’d pick it over any limited-time special for a first visit. I gave the same advice in our A&W Ottawa guide, which also covers the rest of the national menu.

Onion ring poutine, a Quebec-only item

A&W added a poutine to the menu of all its Quebec restaurants, with onion rings in place of the fries (Noovo Moi). Nothing else on this list is a Quebec exclusive, so you won’t find this one in Ottawa or Toronto. I could not confirm its launch date or whether Montreal menus still carry it in October 2026. Ask at the counter or check the app.

A&W Smash Burger

The Smash Burger is A&W’s first smash burger, sold across Canada since May 25, 2026, as a limited-time offer. It comes as a single or a double: hand-smashed grass-fed beef patties, cheddar, pickles, onions and a house sauce on a brioche bun (A&W press release). It sold. A&W credited the smash burger promotion for its 1.8% same-store sales growth in Q3 2026 (A&W Q3 2026 results). I could not confirm that Montreal locations still sell it.

Beyond Meat and vegetarian options

A&W was the first fast-food chain in North America to serve the Beyond Meat plant-based burger, in October 2018, and demand was so high that it briefly ran out (Wikipedia). I could not confirm which plant-based burger Montreal locations serve today. Check the current menu in the A&W app before you count on it.

Better Beef: is A&W beef hormone-free?

Since 2013, A&W Canada has served beef from cattle raised without added hormones or steroids, and at the time it called itself the only national burger chain in Canada doing so (CTV News; QSR Web). Read the wording carefully. “Without added hormones” does not mean “hormone-free”: cattle produce hormones naturally.

Root beer in a frosted mug

A&W is still the root beer mug chain. Frosted mugs were part of its 2011 Montreal urban concept, and dated photos show they haven’t gone away. A July 2026 shot of the counter at 1494 Côte-Vertu Boulevard shows mugs chilling in the fridge. The 2023 menu boards at 453 Sainte-Catherine West advertise a “bock givré”, Quebec French for a frosted mug. I can’t promise every branch pours dine-in root beer into one, so ask.

A&W Montreal prices and Quebec sales tax

I am not publishing A&W Montreal menu prices, because I found no current, dated price from an official source. The figures online, including Teen Burger combo prices, come from unofficial aggregators and blogs. For today’s price in Canadian dollars, use the A&W app or the menu board. One tip: on French menus in Quebec, a combo is called a “trio”.

Budget for tax on top of the menu price. In Quebec, the 5% GST and the 9.975% QST are added to the price shown, so your total at the till is about 15% higher (Revenu Québec).

Value Deals under C$4

A&W runs a value menu with items at C$4 or less. In Quebec, it was announced in November 2024 as “Délices Valeur”, with the Cheese Buddy Burger, the Chicken Buddy Burger and spicy chipotle chicken and bacon wraps at participating restaurants and in the app (RestoMontréal). A&W’s fiscal 2025 results also mention a Value Deals menu under C$4 launched in Q3 2025 (A&W, March 2026). For how these deals compare with McDonald’s and Burger King, read our coverage of the 2026 burger value wars.

A&W Montreal reviews: what diners say

I am not publishing ratings or review counts for A&W Montreal. I could not read the Yelp and Tripadvisor pages, and Google scores weren’t available to me. The only reviews I could read, on restoenligne.com, are mixed. Diners praise the fast service and fresh food. They complain about wrong orders, waits and food that arrives cold.

How I put this together. I have not eaten at these restaurants for this guide, so there is no Burger Breton rating here. Everything above comes from A&W’s press releases and financial results, mall pages and directory listings, checked on October 19, 2026. Where sources disagreed, I said so instead of picking one.

A&W Canada vs the US: not the same company

A&W Canada and A&W in the United States are separate companies, which is why American visitors find a different menu in Montreal. The Canadian chain opened its first restaurant in 1956 on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. Unilever bought the Canadian business in 1972, and a group of Canadian managers and franchisees bought it in 1995 (Wikipedia; A&W history).

Today, A&W Food Services of Canada is headquartered at 171 Esplanade West in North Vancouver, B.C. Since its 2024 combination with the A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund, it has traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol AW (TMX Money). Susan Senecal has been president and CEO since February 2018, the first woman in the role. In 2025, system sales reached C$1.92 billion, up 2.8%, with 26 openings. On October 16, 2026, the company announced a new strategy built around premium beef burgers, chicken, plant-based food, global flavours, new formats and the expansion of Pret (A&W Q3 2026 results).
