Best Burgers in Quebec City: Area Guide

The best burgers in Quebec City are mostly a short walk from the walls of Old Quebec: on rue Saint-Joseph in Saint-Roch, along rue Saint-Jean in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, on avenue Cartier in Montcalm and on 3e Avenue in Limoilou. Expect two formats: the casse-croûte, a counter that serves a burger with a poutine, and sit-down bistros and pubs with a burger on the menu.

The city is built on two levels, and so is its eating. Upper Town holds Old Quebec, Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Montcalm; Lower Town holds Saint-Roch and the Petit-Champlain. Saint-Roch, the old commercial heart of Lower Town, is now one of the city’s main restaurant districts. Fresh cheese curds, a Quebec staple, come with the poutine and sometimes go on the burger itself. Each September the city also takes part in Le Burger Week, the festival born in Montreal.
