Best Burger in San Sebastián: Inside La Burguessía's La Irresistible
Two cook brothers turned lockdown delivery into Gipuzkoa's best burger of 2024. What's in La Irresistible, where to eat it and what it costs.

The best burger in San Sebastián, going by verified results, is La Irresistible at La Burguessía. At the 2024 Spanish Burger Championship (Campeonato de España de Hamburguesas) it was named best burger in Gipuzkoa and finished second in the Basque Country. In 2025 it was second in the Basque Country again. It costs €16.50, and all three La Burguessía locations in the city serve it: Gros, Centro and Antiguo.
This is a sourced profile, not a tasting review: I haven’t scored La Irresistible on flavour. On 7 October 2026 I checked every fact below against La Burguessía’s official site and menu, the San Sebastián tourism board listing and Basque local press, and each source is linked where I use it. Where two sources disagree, I show you both.
Who is behind La Burguessía?
La Burguessía belongs to two brothers who are both cooks: Mikel García and his brother, whose first name appears as Ion in some sources and Jon in others. I haven’t been able to confirm which spelling is right. They began selling burgers for delivery during the pandemic lockdown, cooked in the kitchen of their own daily-menu restaurant in Gros. The first La Burguessía opened there (Muselines, Onda Vasca).
No source gives a founding date more precise than ‘during the pandemic’, which puts it in 2020 or 2021. One more detail has only one source: in 2024 Onda Vasca reported that the Gros site shared its kitchen, dining room and staff with Restaurante Capricho on Calle Zabaleta, the brothers’ original restaurant.

La Burguessía key facts
La Burguessía has three locations, burgers from €15.50 to €16.50, and two Basque Country podium finishes that I could verify independently.

What is in La Irresistible burger?
La Irresistible stacks aged beef with two Basque cheeses and two kinds of pork in a potato brioche bun, for €16.50. This is the build listed on the official menu page:
- Aged beef patty (‘chuletón madurado’)
- Smoked Idiazabal, the Basque sheep’s milk cheese
- Agour cheese, from the French Basque Country
- Caramelized onion
- Pickles
- Crispy bacon
- Cured Iberian pancetta
- Mayo-beef sauce
- Potato brioche bun
On paper, that’s a heavy burger: two cheeses and two cuts of pork on one patty. The cheese is what I’d single it out for. Idiazabal comes from this side of the border and Agour from the French side, so the burger brings both halves of the Basque Country together. Many gourmet burgers could be served in any city; this one is clearly from here.
Idiazabal, the pressed sheep’s milk cheese from the Basque Country and Navarre. La Irresistible uses the smoked version alongside Agour from the French Basque side. The official page now gives the patty weight as 180 g. Onda Vasca (2024) and Muselines both reported 200 g, and Onda Vasca named Rubia Gallega beef. The recipe may have changed since, so I use the current official figure. The site mentions 30-day ageing for some preparations only, so I won’t put one ageing figure on this burger.
La Burguessía awards at the Spanish Burger Championship
La Burguessía has finished on the Basque Country podium of the Campeonato de España de Hamburguesas, organised by Best Burger Spain, twice that I can confirm from independent sources.
| Edition | Result | Source |
|---|---|---|
| IV Championship (results 12 March 2024) | La Irresistible: best burger in Gipuzkoa, 2nd in the Basque Country | Onda Vasca |
| V Championship (2025) | 2nd in the Basque Country, behind Hot Vitoria (Vitoria-Gasteiz), ahead of Gose Smash Burgers (Bilbao) | Gasteiz Hoy |
| 2026 | Claimed on the official site, not independently verified | laburguessia.com |
Basque Country podium at the Spanish Burger Championship, 2024 and 2025: La Burguessía second both years, best in Gipuzkoa in 2024. In 2025 it finished behind Hot Vitoria and ahead of Gose Smash Burgers. 2026 is not independently verified. (Chart: Burger Breton, data from Onda Vasca (14 March 2024) and Gasteiz Hoy (https://www.gasteizhoy.com/alava-mejor-hamburguesa-euskadi-2025/))
The restaurant’s own site goes further and calls itself ‘second best in the Basque Country 2024-2026’. I could confirm 2024 and 2025, and the Gipuzkoa title for 2024 only. Treat 2026 as the restaurant’s own claim until the results appear elsewhere. Third place in 2025 went to Gose Smash Burgers, whose city is covered on our page for the best burgers in Bilbao.
La Burguessía locations: Gros, Centro or Antiguo?
La Burguessía has three locations in San Sebastián, and none of them is in the Old Town (Parte Vieja). Addresses and phone numbers come from the official site and the San Sebastián tourism board.
| Location | Address | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| Gros | Calle Zabaleta 55 | +34 943 32 67 34 |
| Centro | Plaza Arroka 14 | +34 943 66 45 42 |
| Antiguo | Avenida Zarautz 4 | +34 943 31 10 26 |
La Burguessía’s three San Sebastián locations: Gros (Calle Zabaleta 55, +34 943 32 67 34), Centro (Plaza Arroka 14, +34 943 66 45 42) and Antiguo (Avenida Zarautz 4, +34 943 31 10 26). None is in the Old Town. (Table: Burger Breton, data from laburguessia.com and San Sebastián Turismoa)
Gros is the original. If the lockdown-delivery story is part of why you’re going, that’s the one I’d pick. As of 2024 it still shared its premises with Restaurante Capricho. Otherwise, all three serve the same burgers, so go to whichever is closest to where you’re staying.

Opening days: call before you go
Sources disagree on La Burguessía’s closing days, so phone the location before you go. The tourism board lists Gros as closed Monday to Wednesday; the official site shows only Wednesday. I found no published booking policy either, so book on the same call.
How La Burguessía compares with other San Sebastián burger spots
La Burguessía is the gourmet pick with the awards. Va Bene has served classic burgers since 1983, and Garua is the one inside the Old Town. I list only facts I could source, and for Va Bene and Garua those come from secondary sites, because I found no official ones.
| Venue | Style | Known for | Where | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| La Burguessía | Gourmet, Basque cheeses | La Irresistible, €16.50; 2024 and 2025 awards | Gros, Centro, Antiguo | Official site |
| Va Bene | Classic beef burgers since 1983 | Burger no. 13 | Boulevard Zumardia 14; Calle Blas de Lezo | Gastroranking, Discover Donosti |
| Garua | Basque-style burger | ‘Basque Burger’ with Idiazabal and Padrón peppers | Parte Vieja (Old Town) | Discover Donosti, Planomato |
San Sebastián burger spots side by side: La Burguessía (gourmet, award-winning, €16.50 La Irresistible), Va Bene (classic beef burgers since 1983, burger no. 13) and Garua (Old Town Basque Burger with Idiazabal and Padrón peppers). Every guide we publish on the city is collected on our San Sebastián burger page. Driving in from France? Our Biarritz burger page covers the other side of the border, and the Restaurants hub lists every city we cover.
Is La Burguessía worth it?
Yes, if you want a burger built on Basque cheeses with an award record behind it, and €16.50 doesn’t put you off. It is the only burger in the city that I found with independently reported championship results in two consecutive years. The menu lists every ingredient, so you know what you’re paying for. Staying in the Old Town and don’t want to walk far? Garua is inside the Parte Vieja, and Va Bene is on the Boulevard at its edge. Va Bene is also the choice for a plain classic burger with four decades of history.
Does Mugaritz serve a burger?
No. Andoni Luis Aduriz’s Mugaritz is an avant-garde tasting-menu restaurant, and none of the sources I checked mentions a burger on its menu or any burger project by Aduriz. That includes the official Mugaritz site, Wikipedia and the 2026 season coverage in El Español and Infobae. Mugaritz is still worth mentioning because it sets the standard here. Visitors come expecting world-class cooking, so a burger has to be good to be noticed.
What Mugaritz actually is
Mugaritz is a two-Michelin-star tasting-menu restaurant in Errenteria, about 15 minutes outside San Sebastián. Andoni Luis Aduriz founded it in 1998 and still runs it as chef-owner in 2026. He was born in San Sebastián in 1971, trained at the Gipuzkoa catering school and joined Ferran Adrià at elBulli in 1993, according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. In May 2023 that organisation gave him its Icon Award.
